Any software that claims to do so is lying as they are laughably trivial to defeat. If they need to revoke and/or supervise all privileges to computer usage, then so be it. Also, the way you posed this question was quite funny: Quote:

| Dispenses buckshot medication for all undead patients. | You are pitting the work of some programmer against the combined curiosity and hormonal drives of a near-teen? Yeah, good luck with that. A quick Google search will teach the kid everything he needs to know to get around any net nanny program.

| I've heard the parental controls features of Mac OS X Leopard works nicely, but it won't work if you are using Windows obviously ! | |

Car: 2 cars + 3 bikes Rep Power: 60 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | don't shoot the messenger... Me personally, I believe in unlimited porn access for everyone... there is of course a way around everything but if it will make his mother sleep a bit better I'm not gonna stand in her way. I might even show the kid how to turn it of if he can keep the secret...

Car: IS250 RWD Rep Power: 86 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I actually have experience with this personally. When I first got on the web, strangely at the same age of 11, I had my own computer but my parents installed Net Nanny on it - it was kinda of a deal we made because I wanted to get on the internet so badly. I got deterred for a while by the rather sinister silouhette of the nanny pulling the plug which showed up when I attempted to view pornography. But soon enough, I found the courage to just go ahead and reformat my computer. Maybe there are easier ways of getting around it, but I just reformatted. I don't blame my parents for doing what they did... I'd much rather have my own computer with a porn blocking program than having to use the computer in the den or family room like a lot of kids are forced to do these days. Tell them to get Net Nanny and give it a try. I don't think it's particularly easy to get around without the password. I had my own computer so I reformatted and made it look like it did before. You can't do this with a family computer for obvious reasons. Edit: Come to think of it, my parents never offered to turn it off as I progressed through my teens and early adulthood. I guess they must have just expected that I got rid of it right away. ![]() Last edited by Shawn; September 22nd, 2008 at 10:06 PM.. |

I dunno how good their filters are as I have them off, but unless the kid knows how to access the PC's DNS settings, he's SOL. Or even better -- set up the DNS on the router like I do. ![]()

And I don't think my parents view me in such an innocent way avanti. ![]() |

Anyhow, I agree. It's time to get tough as there is nothing that's going to prevent him from getting to it. I would make sure the computer is in a high traffic and visible area. Have a talk with him and and if he still tries to look at it make sure he can't get on the internet period.

Car: 2008 VW GTI Rep Power: 8 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Do what Viper said. My dad was an IT guy back when I was younger and he did just that. Took me forever to figure out how to get around it. But as was said earlier, there is little that can defeat a hormonal 12 year old. |

Car: 2 cars + 3 bikes Rep Power: 60 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the computer is in his room, where it is remaining. but we have all been young, whether it was porn mags, porn videos or porn surfing, we always found a way to hide it from our parents. I don't even think it is a problem now, and when it eventually is he is "too" old to "restrain" anyways.. edit, yeah, will give opendns a try too!
