I just got a PSP for free (long story) that I first wanted to sell right away, but then thought it would be kinda cool to keep it.
Problem is it came with nothing. No power cord/charger, no game, no nothing. (It does have the 32mb MemoryStick though) Also, no one is sure that it actually works yet. It looks to be in great condition, but the battery is dead. I'm going out tomorrow to find a power cable for it, if it boots up then I'll start wasting more money on it. What can you do with this besides play games and watch UMD movies? I think I remember hearing about a web browser? Anyway, this is why I need your help, I never paid any attention to the PSP and now I know nothing about it. What can one do with this thing? |

I guess you can homebrew it and download games and put them on the mem stick... Then you COULD play them i guess..

You can browse the web, use Skype, GoMessenger, GPS, great Mp4 player (perfect for travelling with your fav Top Gear Episodes) etc.
And thanks to homebrew you can do lots of stuff with it. I think you can even emulate windows with it (never tried though). If you install the Custom Firmware you can play any PSP and PSOne game for free (via ISO/CSO images). Finding a battery will be easy, but about the power cable I don't know. |

Does it have any internal memory? Or will I need another Memory Stick?

Memory Stick. It hasn't got any internal memory.
You can put plenty of stuff with a 4 GB memory stick. Right now I've got 9 games in my 4 GB stick so ther's plenty of space for everything. |

If you are used to buying off eBay, I remember seeing an 8gb memory stick go for $2
The emulating windows thing is just accessing a webpage stored on the memory stick. The only use for it is that the web browser on it is better then the one on the actual PSP system. @Vltros: Can yoiu still play UMD games after you homebrewed your PSP? I know my friend's PSP lagged like crazy when we tried the UMD MGS: Portable Ops. |

I use my PSP as a music player mainly, It puts all other MP3 players to shame. I also use my for RSS podcasts and web browsing. Memory sticks are cheap, and if you are going to get any games, get Locoroco.

Yes, it can play UMDs, even with a custom firmware. I highly recommend that you overlock the CPU to 33mhz, as some of the games (GTA VCS) are quite demanding. Get an 8GB Memory Stick so that you don't have to bother with CSOs. They tend to run slower and don't look as good as ISOs.
If I recall correctly, extended battery covers only come in black and white, so if you have a silver slim, be prepared to have a ghetto styled PSP. You *could* actually run Windows 95 or even 98 off the memory stick through DOSBox, but it just ain't worth it. I think it takes 10 minutes to load Windows itself. Be sure to install PSPTube for watching online videos, and PSP Maps for Google Maps. The internet browser is quite user friendly, but it does take a while to load pages other than forums. Lastly, go for the custom firmware M33 3.90-1. Then install 3.90-2 or 3 if you want. Apparantly the new GEN 3.95 CFW have a few minor bugs and niggles. Unless if you plan on using it to control your PS3, I would recommend that you stick with the older more stable M33 3-90 firmware.

As long as the battery in it is ok I wont be getting another, also its the original PSP not the slim.
I really just plan on buying maybe 2-3 games, using it a lot for random web browsing when I can't get on a computer, and watching movies/tv shows. I gotta start scanning ebay for an 8gb stick. It was left in my brother-in-law's shore house by a renter some time last summer. I found it accidentally 3 weeks ago under a bed and gave it to him, he investigated a little and no one was claiming it, so he gave it to me. edit: just found out the hard way I can't charge through USB.. d'oh! Yeah, custom firmware is the way to go. Games load faster, plus the battery lasts longer since the UMD drive doesn't have to be accessed for loading. And of course you can torrent any game you want (try before you buy), so that's a big bonus
I also like playing the old school NES, SNES, Genesis games on road trips and such. I have 2 memory sticks, 2GB each, and between those two sticks I have 6 or 7 full PSP games on there, plus some old schoold emulators + ROMS, so you can do alot with 4GB

![]() I got a charger today, plugged it in and it started right up, but I got a surprise. When it booted up, the background was a nude picture or Kim Kardashian. So obivously I did what any nerd would do and immediately started looking through the Memory Stick. HOLY CRAP is there a lot of porn on that 32mb stick. What was most interesting is that the last picture stored was on March 18th, so it couldn't have been a renter and must be a family member of my brother-in-law or one of his friends. The nickname of the PSP is someone's last name, I'm going to do some investigating and see who I can find. The web browser's history is full of searches for all these pictures too, and myspace. Either this person thought they left it somewhere else or is just way too embarrassed to claim it, I know I would be, some of the pictures are.. odd. Anyway, I think I'll hold off on sinking any more money into this before I find out the sick person who owned it. |

edit: got the creep's email, his myspace looks like he would like the crap on the PSP, it also says he lives in California (I know people lie on myspace) Last edited by Prost264; June 11th, 2008 at 9:03 PM. |
