Default Torrents *still* cause slow-downs... I'm out of ideas.

I'm getting so fed up with this. I have been dealing with slow network speeds on-and-off while using uTorrent for longer than I can remember.

NO, this is not a noob problem where I'm allowing too many connections or too much upload usage for my bandwidth. My current limit is only 50 connections total and my upload speed limit is only 13 kbps. I'm on DSL that's usually around 3-5 mbps down / 768k up.

I've tried configuring my firewall only to allow connections for uTorrent on weird, uncommon ports (ie.: not over port 21, 22, 25, 115, 80, 443, etc.). No go.

This slowdown ONLY affects the host computer. Any other device on the network is fine. Heck, if I boot up a virtual machine on the host computer, I can get around online just fine in the VM!

What the heck?!! images/smilies/blowup.gif

Network drivers? Also what happens if you reduce the number of connections absurdly, like to 2 or 3?

Have you tried raising the max half open connections specified in the tcpip.sys? Assuming you run XP...

Because your problem sounds exactly like it. Affects only the PC the torrents run on, Lowering utorrent values doesn't really help, but switching utorrent off does...

I upgraded to the latest vuze (on my mac), and whenever I start downloading I can't surf the web on multiple machines (websites say "contacting" or something, but they rarely load.

^ Then again, 50000 is a bit much. The value used to be 10 and the tool I specified sets it to 50. Personally I never needed more...

Now here is a noob question, are you sure it isn't throttling by your internet company? I say that because Bell does it to me and I do not think there is a way around it.

This sounds like the classic case of too many connections breaking the router. Set the max. connection limit to something around 100.

1. The uTorrent configuration only seems to limit open connections. My firewall usually reports well over a thousand connections from uTorrent, but most of them are transferring no data.

2. The TCP/IP limitation only affects new connections per second.

3. This is only affects my computer. Other computers on the network are just fine when this problem occurs.

Yes, I'm sure. See #3 above.
