Default A few questions regarding the purchase of a PS3

I already own an Xbox 360 Elite and now I'm considering getting a PS3 in the USA as it's really cheap (399$ for the 40GB).

I have a few questions:

1. Will it work in Europe with the electricity difference?

2. Will Blue Ray movies from Europe work on it?

3. Will European games work on it?

I am only really getting it for the blue ray player and Gran Turismo, am I mad?

1. It should, but you should, but check the box of the PS3 before you buy it. The power adapter (brick) is built into the PS3 and I can't find any power info on my PS3 images/smilies/tongue.gif.
My PS2 worked in India, so I am sure the PS3 has similar capibilities.

2. Some, but very very few *might* work. But most have region locking on them. images/smilies/cry.gif

3. As far as I have read and know they do work.

1) Yes, though you may need some sort of adapter

2) No, unless someone comes out with some sort of hack.

3) Yes, but because of differing TV standards you have to have a 720p tv or better. Also note that I think there has been some multiplayer region locking on some games though I don't know whether this was done based on the software or the hardware of the ps3

1. You'll probably need an adapter, but I think it would be okay.

2. I'm not sure, a lot of movies support multiple reigions so make sure to check before buying a BD.

3. The games will definetley work.

1. you'll need a plug adapter (couple of quid from maplin) and the actual PSU should be able to take 100-240v 50/60Hz like nearlly all PSU's can these days.

2. i think movies will likely be region coded so movies could be out for the count. not 100% on that though. BTW you can get a LG BD/HD DVD reader CD/DVD burner drive for like 60 quid, bargin.

3. games should be fine

So because of HD there are no PAL and NTSC restrictions? I always used to think that PAL and NTSC had been made up by Sony to be awkward, so that people couldn't use imported games. images/smilies/lol.gif

Well for the PS3 it still doesn't matter under SD for some reason.

the good thing about Blue Ray is that there are ABSOLUTELY no regain codes what so ever for movies or games

As far as I know, only the games are region free, the movies aren't.

I suggest getting a nice Wonpro power strip like this (although with a Euro plug on the end):

Nothing beats being able to hook up any type of plug you want. images/smilies/thumbup.gif
