Default A new BMW I actually want.

From autoblog:

http://pic.phyrefile.com/a/an/anonymous/2009/03/16/thermaltake_level_10_580.jpg

Quote:
About a decade ago, pretty much every computer in the world was housed in a boring beige box, and the biggest design question was whether that container would sit vertically or horizontally. That's all changed now, partly due to the influence of Apple and custom PC manufacturers like Thermaltake, a Taiwanese company that specializes in PC cases and cooling devices.

Recently, Thermaltake contracted BMW DesignWorksUSA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German automaker, to help create a new concept in high-end computing, and the result is wholly different from what's common to the market today. Instead of centering around one large box that all the computer components would sit inside, BMW's Level 10 concept uses a set of smaller containers that would house each individual piece.

The requisite LCD LED lighting is present and accounted for, in this case glowing a red hue that looks Vader-esque with the rest of its piano black plastic surrounds. This design is mostly an aesthetic exercise, but it may also have a desirable effect on cooling. Other unique features include a "USB memory key" that doubles as a power button and dual handles that allow the unit to be transported. See the official press release after the break.

Yeah.. Right..

As for the case, cooling must suck (pun intended) with that configuration.

I have two Thermaltake cases at the moment - if they say it works, I'm inclined to believe them. They are by far the best case maker I've seen.

So, Thermaltake designed some "meh" case than realized they couldn't ask much money with their name only on it so they called BMW and borrowed their name to justify a huge markup?

Pass.

I guess I'm the only one who think it looks rather spiffy. I'm fine with that.

All they would need to do is integrate a handy water cooling system behind all the shinyness and I think it'd make a great case. Most people wouldn't be able to come with that idea, their idea of a PC case is archaic as the idea that monitors should be large 50KG blocks that make you blind over time...i.e. people who still think CRTs > LCDs for everything.

I have a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream and a Kandalf (that's the water-cooled one). The reason I keep getting Thermaltake cases is the quality of construction. Sure they are just boxes or boxes with windows on the side. The cases are well constructed, don't flex when moved, and have clever systems for swapping out hardware.

I've built or helped build many computers over the years and Thermaltake cases have become my favorite.

I wonder if they have somehow managed to make the entire case a heat-sink, which would be a rather cool (pardon the pun) airflow solution.

Looks like a computer for someone with a lot of B&O products and other assorted piano black techno pieces around their home.

It looks great, but I get the feeling that an effective cooling system might be a bit difficult to put in place for it.

Thermaltake is possibly the crappiest company in the whole silent pc industry (except maybe SilenX), but make it a bmw and... you know the rest.

Maybe that's why I have not had a problem with my Thermaltake cases, I didn't buy them to be silent. My next PC might go that route, might not, but I know there are better silent cases than Thermaltake.
