I need to burn the iso file to the cd right?

edit -this is what i did:

Burned memtest86+-1.70 iso file onto a cd

then reboot the pc cilc F12 (boot menu) ---> then I click on CDROM

Then vista just starts up normally with no option for running the test images/smilies/sad.gif

What am I doing wrong?

ISO is an image file kind of like a zip or rar file, you will need to use a image burning program to burn the image to disc, I think nero is able to do it.

I just click on the iso file and it opens it in nero. Is that ok?

Ok, I ran the test for almost 3 hours it did 7 passes and I got 0 errors. I will scan in other configurations later on when I have some time.

A big thanks to everyone that posted in this thread and helped me out.

Not really, you will probably be tempted to switch to Vista after a while, all the new games are coming out with DX10.

I'm getting more ram for sure. DDR3 is still too expensive, and my next upgrade will be a while, so I'm using the final chance and up my system to 4/6gbs

Well, there are two ways how I'm gonna run 6gb Ram

a) stay with Vista 32bit, use 3gb physical ram, and another 3gb on ramdisk, change Vista pagefile's storage location to the ramdisk drive, and you will get a superfast pc at doing multitasking.

b) use full 6gb with Vista 64bit.

I'm gonna run some tests and games to determine which is the better option, gonna be a geeky long weekend for me : P

oh.. to answer your question, I'm finding 2gb ram is on the laggy side when doing excessive multitasking(which I do quite often), and I have numerous programs running in the background. Since the price is still quite good for 4gb, I better grab them before the prices go up again. Besides, I can always build another machine with by taking 2gb out of my current setup, and I will still have 4gb of ram.

^I thought 3 GB of physical RAM + a pagefile still only equals ~3.5 GB of memory on a 32-bit system?

Depends if the OS supports PAE or not.

the program "Gavotte Ramdisk" works under 32/64bit OS, it picks up all the physical ram detected, you then can create a 3gb partition on the ram, so now the memory that will be mapped to the OS will be left with 3gb, allowing 32bit OS to pick up all the memory left (3gb).

Now you have a 3gb partition, which you can move all the cache folders from the program onto the ram partition. Like temp files, internet files etc.. under that ram-partition.

I'm just waiting for the ram to arrive. Gonna do some thick testing with different configs and CPU, and then OS choice, will let you guys know how it turns out.

Now you have a 3gb partition, which you can move all the cache folders from the program onto the ram partition. Like temp files, internet files etc.. under that ram-partition.
The question is: will Windows work with the pagefile put onto the ramdisk? The problem is that the ramdisk has to exist before Windows initializes the pagefile during booting.
