Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Hi all, I have been using virtualdubmod to clip out my video files. Unfortunatly to compose my film I use premiere pro. In comparision to Virtualdubmods simplicity, speed and lack of RAM kill, Premiere also has real issues with Xvid files. Rendering a 400mb to over 8Gb. What alternatives are out there to these large video editors. I would just like to edit timeline , add clips & sound tracks. Maybe a basic transition effect here and there.. Any Suggestions? non microsoft please! |

| Adobe certainly is the best as far as ratings/reveiews tend to go. I personally use Premiere Elements, which is a more compact version, but still does everything I need it to do. A lot of people like Pinnacle Studio, though it seems to suffer from some performance and crashing issues (haven't tried it myself however). Other people prefer Ulead VideoStudio. As far as cheaper and smaller, I was actually very impressed with a free video editing program that came with my DVD burner: Arcsoft Showbiz. It does all the timeline editing tools, good effects, etc. and it was very stable. I made a few different videos with it and was pleasantly suprised. You may want to give it a shot. Suprisingly, I was reading a PC mag that was saying some good things about Roxio's latest video editor as well, so that would probably be farily cheap and straight forward. | |

Car: Honda CR-V Rep Power: 16 ![]() | I've only had experience with Pinnacle Liquid edition 5.5, which is pure crap. Constantly crashing.... and rendering project formats without my consent (like from pal to ntsc and from 16:9 to 4:3). So stay away!!! You could try one of the free editing programs, like Avid free DV or Zwei Stein. I downloaded them, but didn't bother to learn how to use them, so I can't give you any recommendations.....

| Sony Vegas is probably the best, as it's very easy to use. I have a link to Vegas 5. Am I allowed to post it? Or should I PM you the link? | |

| old porsches do run! | I tried a few, and stopped at Ulead MediaStudio. Not as frustrating as Premiere (takes forever to find what's wrong when something doesn't work right), but has all the right toys, works pretty fast, and really easy to start using. Although I never tried Sony Vegas... |

Rep Power: 15 ![]() | I'm a huge fan of Sony Vegas. It's definately one of the best video editors out there. However, it may still have problems importing direct XVID files, depending on your system's XVID decoder. Your best bet would be to do a google search for the huffyuv codec and use VirtualDub to take what you need from the XVID videos and render it into that. Vegas opens huffyuv with no problems at all and huffyuv is a surpisingly efficient "lossless" video codec. |

| not sure what happened to my post from this thread, but I basically said that Avid Liquid 7 is the highest rated editor at the moment, followed by the cheaper Premiere Elements for those on a tighter budget. | |
