yes, another find me a laptop post, but this one's slightly different. here's the preface.
i have a HP TC4200 tablet right now, and my dad wants to buy it from me, so i'm going to be needing another one for school. so i've narrowed the options down to a few, but yes, they need to be tablets. also, my budget is no more than $1500, as i'm a poor student. i also prefer the convertible tablets, as just having a slate means i'd have to get a keyboard with it. i'm leaning more toward the HP TX1000, but want opinions of others. links to the tablets: HP Toshiba Fujitsu EDIT: forgot IBM Lenovo as well, there's the X41, and X60. What are the ASUS tablets priced like up there?
For tablets laptops I'd say go with Toshiba/Asus - Toshiba's been doing them the longest and certainly have the experience but in all, they're all good laptops with decent branding and factory backing so it comes down to your own personal choice/highly refined needs. (I chose an HP over a Toshiba on the sole reason the 'Windows' button was where I like it to be on the keyboard) |

Not sure about Asus, a guy at college has one and its just falling apart...which isn't good.
He is a bit of a wanker though so that might have something to do with it. My recommendation: HP - I got a NX6325, I've drowned it in coffee, dropped it, hit it (....don't ask....) and it works just fine. I'd try and find reviews and comments on the internet before making any purchase, See if anyone is complaining about the model your interested in.

Lots of reviews and awesome prices at www.Newegg.com. I've been thinking about getting a tablet lately too, and if I were to buy it today it would have to be the Asus. They seem really nicely laid out, well built and are cheaper then any of the equivalent comps from other companies.

having spent a year selling tablet PCs to hospitals all over the east coast i have to stay Fujitsu and Toshiba both make fantastic machines. none of my customers ever had and issue with either. HP does have some nice machines as well. For my money i would go with Fujitsu

for instance, on the HP's tablet pen, there's no eraser, bad idea. i'm now starting to lean more towards the Toshiba M400, even though it's a smaller screen. gonna go keep reading

3 words...
To-shi-ba. My friend has one and he absolutely loves it. I had a toshiba laptop for a while and it worked out great. My old roommate had one too lol. One that I would also check out (if interested in a non-tablet comp) is Sony. The monitor is to die for. |

I'd choose an IBM-Thinkpad. The main argument is, that you can nearly change every part. processor, Wlan-card, modem, optical drives, display, everything can be changed. The notebooks are very robust and extremely well processed.
Another option would be - but i think it is out of budget -a panasonic toughbook. They are completely indestructible (if you choose a full ruggedized one). Anyway. The IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads will do the job as well

I'd recommend IBM. I have a 2.5 year old IBM R52 (not a tablet, I know), and the only problem with it is its weight, just under 3 kgs. So I trust 'em

My brother has a medium end Toshiba (not a tablet) and he absolutely hates it
It is starting to fall apart and has random crashes and the battery has gone from 2 hours to 30 minutes. It is 2.3 years old though.
