Default Any reason to hide license plate online?

I recently made a little video in a attempt to try and fix a problem i've been having with a atv of mine and after watching it i realized one of my cars license plates is extremely readable, is this a big deal? If so would anybody be willing to edit the video so its the license plates a blur?? I'm willing to give super reputation points to anybody who can do such.

heres link to file.

http://www.esnips.com/nsdoc/d1456df9...action=forceDL

edit:if a mod can change the title to include the fact i'd love help with video editing i would also be super apprieciate.

I've never bothered with it when I'm posting pics of my vehicles online.

Some people get pretty anally-retentive over it, but I tend to think they're likely more paranoid than justifiably concerned.

That's a good question. I've always blurred my plate's numbers out because that's what most other people did to. I just assumed I was protecting myself somehow, but now that you mention it, other than the police, does the general public have access to my info through my plate number? I'm thinking no.

At least in Finland, yes. Everyone can get the cars owner with plate number.

If you'd be willing to post the file to somewhere that doesn't require logging in (like Phyrefile) and PM me the link, I'd be willing to remove the license plate number for you.

I really don't see a difference between seeing a plate on a car you walk or drive by and a car on a picture online.

I just found a site that will apparently give detailed info of the owner of the plate you look up. It costs $29 for three years of unlimited searches.

I think the problem is the number of nice cars that are on here. Okay you would see them on the street but not all at once, and you probably wouldn't get the chance to write the plates down. Having so many in one place, and the ability to find out where the owners live, would be a perfect opportunity for crims.

It's the difference between someone seeing you as you walk by, and posting your picture online. If you don't mind the latter or strangers being able to link your real name to your online name, then you probably don't need to blur out your car's license plate number, either.

yeah but if someone sees your car online, they can't jack it over the internets. If they see it in the parking lot while you're at your job, they can get the plate number then too...

...also they can take the car.

If I'm posting a picture of your own car, you're free to do what you want, although I'm likely to err on the side of caution and edit it out.

If I'm posting a picture of someone else's car, I will certainly edit out the plate as a courtesy, unless it's an intentional comedy plate used only for a show.

What does the license plate number have to do with your car getting stolen? images/smilies/huh.gif

I see Das_Idiot's point. Let's say you just bought yourself a new EVO X or Nissan GT-R, and throw pictures up on the net, or a forum. If someone wanted to, they can learn of your location and steal it. It is all about annominity; writing down or following someone in person is much less desirable to a thief, but on the internet, no one can observe you collecting data.

I have a feeling that most people with an Evo X or GTR will have full-coverage insurance with theft protection...

It is actually worse than that. A number of home invasion robbery gangs have been found to select potential targets by finding nice cars online, getting info on the owner's location, then going to that person's home, robbing the house and taking the car for good measure. If not worse.
