I wish you were right, but I just really doubt it in a lot of cases.

most finance companies here won't even let you drive off the lot if you don't have comprehensive insurance

Same way here. While I can understand how a GTR would be bought in cash, I don't see most Evo X's being the same way. $30k is within most middle-class Americans' reach with financing. A few might be bought with cash on-the-spot, but they'll likely end up as track toys anyway.

Mandatory for new cars here over a certain price level if you get them on a x-year plan through a bank (they demand it).

I don't bother. You're required to have them in sight in real life, where someone can just as easily copy them as they can from a picture online.

Sig shows it. Whoop-dee-doo.

I don't really see the point unless you're doing something illegal.

In Israel it is very much impossible to find driver details through his license plate, the most you can get out of it is if the car is stolen or not.

Two valid (if a bit paranoid perhaps) reasons I can understand are

1) You don't people recognising you in the real world - i.e. you don't want some random person coming up to you because they saw your car online (you never know who they might be).

2) To reduce the chances of your number plate being cloned. I've heard that criminals often use used-car websites to find the same make, model, age and colour as a car they've stolen so they can clone the number plate. That way they can fly past scameras or avoid congestion charges as the fines will be sent to owner of the cloned plate (who then has to prove it wasn't their car)
