Just read about it on XtremeSystems, looks like they kept all the good thing about the EEE PC (small size, cheap, SSD) and improved on the screen. Too bad they dropped the touchscreen, oh well, I'll get one of those touchscreen kit for it if I buy one.

Here are some very vague specs.

Is there any reliable source of this information? I see mixed reports.

It depends on what you want to do with it.

A mate of mine is a network / systems engineer. He needs something he can carry around to do troubleshooting and diagnostics with.

It runs Linux so he has access to most of the tools he'd want to use while troubleshooting network faults, which he can connect to via wireless or ethernet. With a USB to RS232 link he can connect to hosts directly if necessary. He can pop it in his kit bag as its tiny and lightweight. If it gets crushed or otherwise breaks....meh, it wasn't that expensive to start off with.

He has a desktop for research and processing and that sort of stuff, so its not his only PC.

Other people I know run aftermarket engine management systems whose programming software is run on Windows machines. They plan on installing these things into their cars so they can output the diagnostics onto the screen to monitor while driving, and use it to tune their cars themselves. The low price, small form factor and solid state disk works out well for using it inside a car.

Personally, I'm looking at buying one to lend to people who come over. I don't like people touching my computer, and so when guests want to surf the 'net or check their email I'd like to give them something like this. I'd also use it myself if I'm in the living room and want something to just surf web pages during commercial breaks, or look up the TV guide.

It has a webcam, mic and Skype so I might even just use it as an oversized telephone.

This thing should be seen as a supplement, not a replacement.

Just the usual Inet blabber. I haven't read anything hinting at the fact that they may use other resolutions though.

Yeah, one would think they'd advertise higher resolution if they had it.

the specs look OK but what about price?

This whole tiny but light and cheap idea isn't that bad, it's more than most people use anyways.

Most people just want to get on the internets!

If the US price are equal to the Euro price, it'll be US$600, that's kinda expensive, but I guess it's still the cheapest UMPC on the market.

The prices usually go with the exchange rate of 1€ = 1$. My guess is that the new EEE could cost as low as 399$ in the US or maybe 499$, but not probably 599$.

...but judging by the time it has taken the EEE to arrive in Finland, we will only be getting them at the end of the following year.

Geeman, how much did the normal EEEs cost here? I remember verkkokauppa had some of them, with an english keyboard.

Exactly. So when YOUR politicians one day say "Let's have VAT", remember to say NO. images/smilies/lol.gif

They are listed at 999€ currently at Verkkokauppa because they are not sure of the price, they will refund the part of the money when they know the price. I think the english keyboard ones were 399€. I haven't seen it anywhere else in Finland. So no really solid info about what the price will be, but hopefully we don't get ripped off too much.

Considering the fact that we are already ripped off by the high VAT, I think 30 euros here or there won't hurt as much.
