Little note on the new version. Was browsing through preferences and there was a button in the general section to "Install IPv6/Toredo". That is the huge new feature for this client, I'm surprised its not automatically installed. I hit the button, the program slowed down to a crawl for a bit, came back. Wonder what I did images/smilies/lol.gif

Have to say this new version is great. It fixed my listen port confliction with AIM. w00t!

Few people do (or can) run IPv6, so there's no real point in installing it (yet). Adding support now though ensures those that do can torrent and also makes sure to not provide any non-incentive ("meh, no reason to as I can't torrent").

Vista comes with IPv6 compatibility outta the box, but XP requires a download (or uTorrent). This should show you how new to consumers it is. images/smilies/wink.gif

It's what is replacing the 123.123.123.123 we're all using right now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6

Quote:
nternet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is an Internet Layer protocol for packet-switched internetworks. It is designated as the successor of IPv4, the first and still dominant version of the Internet Protocol, for general use on the Internet.

IPv6 has a much larger address space, which allows flexibility in allocating addresses and routing traffic. The extended address length eliminates the need to use network address translation to avoid address exhaustion, and also simplifies aspects of address assignment and renumbering when changing Internet connectivity providers.

The IPv6 address space is extremely large: IPv6 supports 2^128 (about 3.4×1038) addresses, or approximately 5×1028 (roughly 2^95) addresses for each of the roughly 6.5 billion (6.5×109) people alive today.[1] In a different perspective, this is 252 addresses for every observable star in the known universe[2] – more than ten billion billion billion times as many addresses as IPv4 supported.
Basically in the next 2-3 years, we'll have run out of IP addresses for all of the computers, servers, cell phones, etc. that are on the Internet. IPv6 makes room for them as well as improving on the whole thing.

^ Yeah, i've been hearing exactly that the past 10 years images/smilies/wheelchair.gif, especially the "next 2-3 years" bit. I have given up hope ever seeing ipv6 go into production.

Everything being done at the Olympics right now is being done via IPv6. Cool, but useless info.

Biggest problem is that about 0.000001% of all consumer-grade routers support it....
