Have you tried taking all but one stick of RAM out of the PC and trying again? That fixed it for me back a few months ago when I was having problems. Just had to find the bad stick 'o ram.

Your only option now is to kill yourself. It's called a blue screen of death for a reason, y'know.
![]() But seriously, what previous computer problems have you been having? For now all I can suggest is what Clegg suggested... if it's crashing before even loading Windows then it's likely a hardware problem. You might also update your BIOS or reflash it, if it can be done without having to go into Windows. Oh, and do you have anything plugged into you computer? Sometimes when I have a card reader or iPod plugged in there, the boot check sequence messes up and my computer tells me I have no OS installed. |

Coincidently, my friend's PC BCoD'd, a couple of days ago. I think he started in safe-mode and installed XP over the old one, and it worked. But hey, there could a bunch of other factors that could have attributed to the blue screen.

![]() What does the BSoD message say? It sounds like it could be your ram, but before you change the ram, press F8 to boot to safe mode. If you can get into safe mode than check if you have any hardware conflicts under device manager. Sounds like you might need a format : p

And I don't know what's BSoD. The bluescreen says memory. Can't make out what's the message because the PC resarts almost immediately after the bluescreen. Again, I haven't backedup my stuff, so no reformat.Quote:
Nope , nothing attached. So the scenario is like this. I switch on, it shows Windows XP and the loading bar below, and just when it's about to switch to the user select screen, I get the bluescreen. Switched both rams by removing either and trial and error, but all showed bluescreens. BTW people, please(I BEG you, please) use layman's words and explain how I can get to BIOS (F8? or 10?) and how I can go about doing what you suggest I try. Have you installed service pack 3 for xp lately? Have been seeing others with a similar problem after installing the latest "upgrade".

If it's crashing after showing the Windows logo and loading bar, I recommend you reformat and reinstall Windows.

I agree as well, but since he didn't backup anything, a format is out of the equation. Press F8 before the bar and the XP logo even shows up. Basically press F8 right after where you pass the first screen. Then choose Safe mode, see if you can boot into safe mode without crashing. If you can't even boot into safemode than I suggest you just format and re-install.

If you have another pc you can hook the hdd up to that and access your data and back it up if nothing has been destroyed thus far....
Otherwise one word comes to mind: FUCK!

Try this
http://www.knoppix.net/get.php Burn it on a CD and see if it boots, if it does it's the OS not the hardware. If it doesn't work try the following things. Get this burn it with your Mac and boot the PC off of it. See if you can find out what hard drive model you have if not use one of the general ones. Also see if you can run MEMTEST86 on your RAM modules (don't remember if UBCD includes it). See if you can remove the hard drive easily, if yes take it out and post us a pic, we can tell you what external enclosure to get so you can get your stuff off of the drive (assuming it passes diagnostics). After you get the stuff off of it do a format + reinstall and see if it does anything. |

press f8 before the windows-loading bar appears. choose something like "deactivate automatic restart at system crashes". The bluescreen will show up. Post the error-codes given in it. (these funny numbers like 0x00000000 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000) They include what's wrong with your pc.

It sounds like a page fault error. Typically, BSoD is attributed to hardware or hardware interface, and in my experience, I would have to say it sounds like your pc is having trouble under load - which is why I would assume it's a memory issue. It is really difficult to diagnose the problem via forum, especially when it's restarting so quickly, and we can't get any info about the error itself.
It would help me to know the specs of your system, and particularly what RAM and motherboard you have. |

Have a video recorder or something to capture the screen... even if it is a split second?
