Default booting from an image

Is it possible to boot from an image?

I have two harddisks...Harddisk 1 has WinXP on it, but I wanna change to Linux. I have an image of a Linux distribution on my Harddisk 2. I want to install it from the image, because i cannot burn dvd's

Is that possible?

I dont think u'll be able to do it with Linux as it copies files after reboot. as well as before so image must be available all time but in your case it wouldnt be. Anyways I never tried it so I cant tell exactly although I worked with CD/DVD images before and Installed Linux off CDs...

install it using VMware...

You only need a way to fix the bootloader after that.

Huh?? What part of linux copies files after reboot??

It's possible to run a bootloader that loads an image. Syslinux allows you to pass booting to another kernel. I really haven't had experience booting from an image, but with PXE booting a kernel, I know it can be done.
