Default Buying new comp, checking if i got all the right bits

Right, im finally about to order a new comp to replace this clump of mud, here's what i'm thinking of getting:

Case: https://www.pimspcshop.nl/page.htm?d...en+voeding%29&
Mobo: https://www.pimspcshop.nl/page.htm?detail.asp?id=7920&
CPU: https://www.pimspcshop.nl/page.htm?d...+MB+%2C+Boxed&
Vid card: https://www.pimspcshop.nl/page.htm?d...C+PCI%2De+16x&
RAM: https://www.pimspcshop.nl/page.htm?d...HX8500D2%2F1G& X2

I plan on using my old power supply which is a 420 watt, would that be enough?

Any suggestions/tips are welcome images/smilies/smile.gif

Bump the ram up to 2GB.
The PSU I think about 500~600 watt, I wouldn't use your PSU particularly if your coming from an old P4 PC.

BlitzR: There's a "X2" on the end of his RAM link. images/smilies/wink.gif

And will your old PSU even work? Mine from my old P4 wouldn't as it was only a 20 pin. They've moved on to 20+4 (24) pin now due to the extra power requirements.

You need a heatsink/CPU cooler. (sorry if you already thought of it but i often forget about them)
Are you reusing your HDD's and opticals? I would suggest going for SATA 2 HDD's for better performance, HDDs are bottlenecks as it is.

And my old PSU: http://trust.com/products/product_de...spx?item=14995 its a 24 pin so it should work, just has to be strong enough....

And yeah i'll be reusing HD, drives and the cooler

There doesn't seem to be much info on the PSU, it could be enough but even the website doesn't display some important numbers.
RAM seems fine.

I would personally stay away from Vista, then again I stay away from Windows period. images/smilies/smile.gif It really depends on what you are going to do, if you need native support for more than 4GB of RAM and run 64bit aware applications then Vista 64 makes sense, if not I would suggest sticking to XP.

I'm running Vista 64, and IMO it's far better than WinXP.

You just have to know how to config the OS to your need.

images/smilies/mrgreen.gifimages/smilies/lol.gif No but I disabled 90% of the useless function that I never use. Stuff like Windows media centre, live messenger, defender, firewall, system restore....etc.. too many to name here, it shows you just how much crap M$ has designed.

gpedit.msc
services.msc
msconfig

knock yourself out. Disable everything and you will have a clean windows : )

I still rekon Windows is a very nice OS/platform for games/everyday use, but only after you tweak it and remove all the crap you dont need.

If you run new programs only (programs made after Vista came out), then go with Vista. But a lot of the old programs don't work correctly in Vista 32bit, so Vista 64bit is probably even worse in terms of compatibility.

I havn't found a program where I can't run on Vista 64 yet.

Most works under 32bit mode, and besides most drivers are now avail in 64bit, so it's not a big hassle.

I worked on friends' laptops that came with Vista 32bit, I know for sure than Nero 6, 1Click DVD Copy Pro, and NJ Star does not work correctly on Vista 32bit.

Get Nero 7/8, screw NJ Star, no need for it when the windows input will just do the job. And you don't need 1click dvd copy pro. Nero can do that.

Nero 7 (haven't used 8 so can't say) doesn't recognize Chinese file names correctly. NJ star has multiple ways of inputting Chinese, so it's very useful. 1Click DVD Copy Pro automatically shrinks a dual layer DVD to a single layer DVD, there are other tools out there that might be able to replace it. But the point it, there are still alot of program that people are still using that's not compatible in Vista. So just make sure the programs you use are compatible with Vista.
