Default Cell Phone- USB Data Cable Question

So I want to get a USB Data cable for my phone, like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

A friend of mine has one, so I might just borrow it for what I need to do.

My question is this. I have a Motorola i830 phone (Nextel) and want to load a ringtone on it. I want to use this USB data cable but I can't find out what software to use. Anyone out there have any experience with this?... I did an archives search and found out there are some programs on some torrent sites but none in particular were indicated.

Of course, any help, HUGELY appriciated.

I don't have any personal experience with the i830, but try checking out http://howardforums.com.
It's a great resource for pretty much anything cell phone related.

Motorola or nextel should have a tool on their website that should allow you to do what you want (that is if they enabled it). I know for my Nokia 6230, there is a program on Nokia's website that I install that allows me to do transfers and programming of my phone through either bluetooth or wire. I've not had a motorola phone for a while, but back when I had my startac, they shipped the software you needed with the cable.

Thanks guys. I clicked on the provided site from hokie, but from there I have entered a world of confusion.

I have like 4 separate sites opened, but can't find what I need. I just wanna know what software I can use to upload a ringtone from my computer to my i830 via a USB cable.

Anyone with experience know?

If you're able to do it, Nextel is pretty janky, you can try Mobile Phone Tools, that's a Moto program, made for their phones. Came with ma old RAZR, that's how I loaded my ringtones on it...that or Bluetooth. images/smilies/smile.gif

No it doesn't. I know it's gay. Phone's only about 2 years old too, so it should.

Update:

Got everything working, except one little bump in the road. When I open the Multimedia Studio in Motorola Phone Tools, load my ringtone into the extractor, and try to transfer it to the phone I get "Unsupported Format- No transfer possible". I tried transfering the file as an .mp3, .wav, .amr, and .adp. I thought I read somewhere the file needs to be in .mid format (not what i wanna do since it is totally different quality), any ideas?

Cruzz you sent me the program so I PMed you with what's going on.

Well, what kinda file is it originally? Maybe the phone has some software related blocking towards non OTA incoming files... Could very well be, phones can be heavily branded...

It's originally just an .mp3 file. Since the program Cruzz sent me in a Motorola program I didn't think there would be compatability issues.

Are you sure your phone can play MP3s?
