Default Cleaning my monitor and keyboard

My equipment is only 3 months old but it's all very dirty. I haven't done anything to the screen yet as I was afraid I might damage it. My keyboard and screen both have quite a lot of dust on them. What the best way to clean dust from around and under the keys and from my screen?

Thanks.

Take a flat screwdriver an gently pop out the keys to clean them individually.
(take a picture first to remember where all the keys are located)

You could always put your keyboard in the dishwasher. Seriously...

You'll want to have it sit for like a week not plugged in so you don't short it out, but I have heard of people doing this successfully.

Keyboard: spray it out with compressed air.
Monitor: get some LCD cleaning fluid and a microfibre cloth

Or even better do as I did when I spilled pop into it which shorted the contacts out: disassemble the whole thing.

I popped off all the keys, undid the screws on the back, etc. etc. and get the board out. Then wash the rest (keys, case, plastic contact sheets, etc.) in your bathtub. Thoroughly dry it, then reassemble.

There are cans with pressurized air in them. They have a "straw" that can shoot air under your keys to clean them.

Sandpaper for the monitor, extra-fine grit and it'll be as new.

And for the keyboard, acetone will surely get rid of all the dirt.

Damp cloth for the monitor, vacuum cleaner with brush-piece on it for the keyboard. Nothing fancy needed. Been doing that for years.

Strapping your whole rig to the roof of your car and driving through a carwash is much work, but it gets the job done like nothing else.

I once popped out all of the keys of one of my keyboards and after I reassemblied it, it was totally ruined. Most keys had to be hit by a hammer to work, so personally I can't recommend this method.

What I on the other hand CAN recommend, is to turn your keyboard on it's head and jiggle it every day. You'll be amazed of how much dirt that actually gets there in one single day.

Exactly my suggestion as well. My keyboard get really dusty for some unknown reason so I did a massive clean just a couple of weeks ago.

It is a bit time consuming (luckily I had my brother's gf to help me) but there is no better way to clean them.

As suggested, just be sure to take a picture, or I had another keyboard to reference, so you can ensure that all the keys go back in their correct places.

I used to do something like that when I worked in tech support for a large company and we would get in really dirty keyboards. You should have seen people's faces when you walk into the kitchen, stick a keyboard in the sink and turn on the water.

I can remember seeing a video of that on youtube a while ago and it really did do a good job. Only really works though if you have a spare keyboard to use unless you spent the week using the onscreen keyboard and using the mouse to type. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Considering how bacteria infested keyboard can get (something as bad a licking a toilet seat in some instances), I'd probably <sarcasm> want to stick it in the microwave or something before scrubbing </sarcasm>.

Keyboards really are gross. As much as we hate the touch keyboard on the iPhone, something like that on a larger scale would be much more sanitary (just take some rubbing alchy to it and you're squeaky clean).

I just shake my keyboard upside down and knock the bottom a bit. It's plastic, it won't get hurt, and I have special cloths for the moniter, but sometimes just a damp rag works, as other people have suggested.

I violently shake the damn thing like theres no tomorrow and then i bang it against the table for good measure. It really gets the dust out and is genuinely entertaining. Probably safer than using water or any other liquids too.
