Default Cool websites

If this already exists, I apologise, but I searched for the past 15 minutes and nothing came up.

This is a thread for keeping tabs on some of the cooler websites out there, something you just HAD to bookmark when you stumbled upon it. Here I don't mean mainstream cool sites that almost everybody knows already, but the more obscure ones that are just plain cool. I'll add mine first:

Ron Fedkiw

Quote:
Fedkiw received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from UCLA in 1996 and did postdoctoral studies both at UCLA in Mathematics and at Caltech in Aeronautics before joining the Stanford Computer Science Department. He was awarded an Academy Award from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Science Award for Initiatives in Research, a Packard Foundation Fellowship, a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), a Sloan Research Fellowship, the ACM Siggraph Significant New Researcher Award, an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program Award (ONR YIP), the Okawa Foundation Research Grant, the Robert Bosch Faculty Scholarship, the Robert N. Noyce Family Faculty Scholarship, two distinguished teaching awards, etc. Currently he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Computational Physics, Journal of Scientific Computing, SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences, and Communications in Mathematical Sciences, and he participates in the reviewing process of a number of journals and funding agencies. He has published over 80 research papers in computational physics, computer graphics and vision, as well as a book on level set methods. For the past seven years, he has been a consultant with Industrial Light + Magic. He received screen credits for his work on "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines", "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith", "Poseidon" and "Evan Almighty".

Design by Hümans

Sweet design community, where you can upload your own designs and other people vote on how cool it actually is. If chosen, your design gets made into a T-shirt that are VERY high quality, which I can claim from personal experience.

Not Always Right

Quote:
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of working in retail, service or other public-facing jobs, you’ve inevitably come across that occasional customer that either makes your blood boil, tickles your funny bone or leaves you totally confused. We all need a place to vent, so Not Always Right is a collection of quotes from these particularly memorable customers.

Listen to YouTube

Quote:
ListenToYouTube.com is the most convenient online application for converting YouTube flash video to MP3 audio. This service is fast, free, and requires no signup. All you need is a YouTube URL, and our software will transfer the video to our server, extract the MP3, and give you a link to download the audio file.

thesixtyone is an experimental game that transforms listening to new music into a fun, massively multiplayer adventure.

Despite the incredible wave of creativity that's happening in music, most people have a difficult time overcoming their underlying "musical inertia" -- why bother with the typical tediousness of music discovery when you can fall back into the comfortable familiarity of your iTunes collection?

Tired of seeing great music fade into obscurity, we wondered if we could harness our experience designing video games to make something that could challenge music geeks and attract average people to the exciting frontiers of new music.

We're on a quest to help people fall in love with something new while giving deserving musicians an efficient channel for finding their audiences. To learn how thesixtyone works, please see our

Hobnox Audiotool

A Flash-based softsynth. You can't save anything you create (yet), but it's a fun application to play around and experiment with. It also has effects pedals, which give you a greater variety of sounds.

This is a really cool site if you're into the old NASA missions and it has loads of cool animations even if you're not.
