Car: 2001 Mercury Cougar V6 Rep Power: 67 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So, on another thread, someone mentioned that their MacBook came with an LED back-lit LCD screen. (Or, rather, someone knew it was a specific model because the poster mentioned the LED screen.) Are any desktop LCD screens built this way? It seems like it would solve a couple problems: (if in fact most are not...) 1) Uneven light across the screen 2) Screens that dim as they age 3) Backlights that die within a few short years 4) Better battery life Also, any new word on OLED screens? Haven't heard anything lately. |

I've not heard any development on the desktop front of this, though I'd imagine that it's only a matter of time before this technology filters into the desktop monitor market.

Currently undergoing a suspension upgrade... 1987 Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC - A project car that had Headgasket issues when I bought it. I've never driven it... yet... |

| Lazy Head Dude | There's been serious talk about reducing the power usage of desktop PCs. It'd save us tons and tons of energy overall.

There is no replacement for displacement. - Wolfgang Bernhard, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Group talking about the Dodge Viper SRT-10 ... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it. - Motor Trend on the 2006 Dodge Viper Coupe, November 2005 |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Unfortunately modern computers are using up the power LCD monitors save. Nowadays the power supply you buy actually matters, video cards cannot be powered just by the PCI-E slot alone, and need external connectors. |

Umm...no...trust me...it can't. It's pretty dark in here. *taps his head* The icecream truck in my head plays Helter Skelter. In any event, my friend just bought a 700w power supply, and he's not quite sure it'll be enough. (yes, he's actually done the math). His utility bill is going to up $50 a month! *laughs* For me, the plunge to go to LCD would be desktop space, and attractiveness...not really energy conservation. I'm not a hippy yet. |
