Well I need help choosing a camera now since I will be travelling to Europe this summer. I was looking at the new Canon SD600, Panasonic Limux FX9 (I think), all Casios are out because they REQUIRE you to use a dock to charge which I am not willing to carry around. Any other suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

I have a Casio Exilim Z750 and the pictures are amazing for a camera like that, I have posted pictures of with the Casio on this forum before. You can go to my photogallery and look at the photos I've taken with the Casio http://www.xenonzone.net/photogallery . Just watch out, only the pictures will file name CIMG are taken with the casio, some were from my Fuji S5600

V1ctor, when are you going ot europe?

I already bought plane tickets to fly there on May 25th London, and fly back on July 4th from Amsterdam.

I have a SD400. 5mpixel and 3x optical zoom.
I'll be carrying a very cheap tripod and 2x 1gb SD cards for it. Also my ipod can store the pcitures via the Camera Connector i bought for $30. I have that shit figured out. Next is to find out about the voltage difference and converters and adapters for the wall outlets.

umm arrive in Paris the 7th of June, then leaving June 28th out of London

All you have to do is buy that converter from radio shack, I used one last time when I went to Paris.

andyhui, I would get the Casio as it looks pretty good but the requirement for charging with a dock is pretty annoying and not very suitable for traveling.

Anyone have any experience with any of the pentax, sonys, canons and panasonics in this price range? The Lumix FX9 looks pretty good but dpreview said the quality wasn't so great and none of the Canon SD cameras have image stabilization. SD600 and the FX9 seem to be my top choices.

I have the sd400, great little point and shoot. Great night time shots only if you have a tripod. My suggestion is get something small. canons have some great picture quality in the day time. It really captures the brilliant colors.

V1ctor, if i have let's say 4 devices i want to charge up during hte night, does one of those converter work ?

all you need is a little adapter that works to european voltage or whatever you wanna call it. You should be able to pick one up at radio shack but for charging 4 things...you might have to bring like a surge protector lol. But yeah you can probably find the converter at a radio shack and see what variations they have there. Guess you haven't been out of the country.

oh yeah where else you going while in europe? besides obviously london and amsterdam

My old camera is a pentax optio 330 (no longer in production) but I have to say it was a really good camera.

Now I have a canon ixus i zoom but that also comes with a dockingstation but I think I have seen a 'normal' charger on the internet somewhere. My main problem with it is that I can't find a bag for it because it is so small images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I'd Totally recommend the Cannon SD series.
I have a SD 300 and it's awesame. Also, Cannon's are known to have the best lenses. So really the only thing that other companies market with is megapixels.
4 is enough, however the higher you go the better you can zoom in with stuff.
What's really fun is you can take close up pics which look really sweet, for ex

enjoy whatever camera you buy and europe! i'll be there this summer for two months in Tübingen and then Euroraling wööt!

I'm not sure if you can get them in the US, but Wonpro makes some great stuff for people who travel or have a lot of appliances from different places:

I've got a couple of those universal power strips, and they work great! images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

I have the first SD Canon, the SD100 (3.2MP). The quality is awesome for a P&S, here are a few examples:

actually... not really, the battery will last you a very very very long time (Casio owners, back me up please)... you won't have to charge it much, how hard is it to put a suitcase? The performance you'll get out of it is very well worth it

the 700is would be great, if i could afford it

and about the dock, it's a hassle because I will be backpacking, not carrying a suitcase around.

I have the canon S1 IS, but wish I had the S2 IS:

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B0009GZSSO.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_V57165102_.jpg

12X optical, 5MP, and the movie recording mode is quite impressive, to say the least

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...477762-8471937

I'd take that over the PowerShot SD700 any day images/smilies/wink.gif and it's cheaper

alright... but IMHO, I really think because the dock is turning away from buying a Camera that is at IXUS 700 standard for much less money. But I've never been backpacking so I can't say much. Good luck in choosing your camera images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Victor, buy the Canon SD550.

It's a tiny camera that you can just bust out while you're in europe. I have the sd400 and that's what i'll be doing. The battery can last the entire day shooting about 300 pictures. You can also buy a backup battery from ebay for like 6 bucks, which i also did. Takes about an Hour to get full charge. I'm well prepared for europe.

These canons also connects w/ the ipod(camera connector $30) to store your pictures so you can take some more with your SD card. I seriously am going to take over few thousand pictures in my 5 weeks of europe backpacking so I needed a way to store my photos while away from a computer.

the 550 does look good but the 600 is cheaper and has a higher ISO (800). I finally got it down to two, the Casio Exilim EX750 and the Canon SD600. Both will be around 300 USD, Casio for 275-299 and the sd600 for around 330. I've heard about the weak flash in the casio which might make me not want to buy it. But anyone else have opinions about these cameras. Right now, I have an old S110...yeah I definitely need a new camera, 2.1 MP just doesn't cut it.

EDIT: anyone that actually knows about specs of these here's a site to compare http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/comp...sd600&show=all

also is there a difference between the 850 and 750 besides the megapixels
