Default Domain name / hosting question

I am wanting to register a domain name for the purposes of setting up email addresses on that domain - i.e. fbc@domain.com, mrsfbc@domain.com etc, and have each address divert mail to an existing POP account (fbc@domain.com > fbc@isp.com, mrsfbc@domain.com > fbcess@isp.com.au etc). I know I could achieve a similar thing for free using gmail, but I also want to register the domain for possible future use.

So my question is what services do I need for this? I know I need to register the domain, and have email forwarding (note I don't need email accounts on the domain, just the addresses), but do I also need DNS hosting? At this stage I'm not going to run a website (so no site hosting required) nor will I have email accounts on the domain, so I'm not sure if DNS hosting is needed.

GoDaddy have a package with their domain registration that includes the email forwarding, and appears to also include the DNS hosting (well, it includes DNS configuration tools, so I'm assuming it includes the DNS hosting too...), but they seem to be quite a lot cheaper than other companies - should I be wary of this?

All suggestions & advice welcome...

My registrar of choice is Registerfly. They aren't necessarily the cheapest, but they do have a ton of features that come basically included with your account. I believe they offer e-mail forwarding, DNS serving, and whois protection for free, and at one time they also had 1GB of free webspace with any domain purchase. I'm actually doing stuff very similar to that with my own domain and it's not difficult to setup at all.

GoDaddy is a decent company, I've not really used them but i've never heard bad things about them. Registerfly was recommended to me by someone else, and I definitely like their control panel systems much more than any other registrar I have used.

I use GoDaddy personally. I love 'em and it's who I have this domain through, as well as two domain names for my BF2 clan and the one for my personal website.

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

same, GoDaddy all the way.

Also, save a few $ with coupons:

http://dealnews.com/coupons/online-s...addy-com/1358/
http://www.scoreadeal.com/coupons/godaddy.asp

They got some good coupons there, and they have a host of features included as normal.

Godaddy is good for domains, but NOT for hosting images/smilies/thumbdown.gif

Cheers for the advice guys - still leaning towards GoDaddy at this point (since hosting isn't a concern yet). I sent some questions to RegisterFly a couple of days ago but haven't heard back yet, whilst GoDaddy were responding within the hour...

Yep, that's why I said what I said images/smilies/biggrin.gif Good for domains, but don't get their hosting. One of my clients had me set up a fairly large E-commerce site and wanted to go with godaddy, and the mySQL queries were taking forever and even timing out, so he quickly switched to a better host.

Thats the same reason my friend switched from their hosting, the SQL problems.
