7800gt, by a mile. It's also a new generation card. But if she hardly plays any games a 6600gt is fine.
thx... she does play a couple of games... bf2 and wc3... she wanted a new setup that can play bf2 at full res and hopefully that can support it images/smilies/biggrin.gif

You should get her 2GB of ram then. One won't cut it.

Here to help you out. images/smilies/wink.gif

I would have gone for another GB as well if I could afford it. For now I'm stuck with medium settings and the odd ingame lag. Thank you very much incompetent BF 2 developers.
You could not by any chance get her four and send two over to me ? images/smilies/lol.gif

Is Jason TGG?
I haven't seen him around for a while. And that would make sense..

And yeah, bf2 likes 1gb of ram and more.

I tried the cod2 demo today, seems like my little 6800 isn't cutting it anymore images/smilies/sad.gif

Everything allright kip. Your post seems rather out of place. images/smilies/lol.gif

Jason is gone for now. He asked Viper to lock his account because he needed to study more or sth. It's all in some thread I can't find.

http://www.planet3dnow.de/artikel/ha...gb_ram/7.shtml

difference between 512mb, 1024 and 2048 mb ram. Only BF2 makes you wait a few extra seconds if you have 1gb compared to 2gb.

Not worth it imo.

Do you even own BF2 ? Loading times aren't the issue here, it's the high res textures demanding heaps of ram. It's using a little bit more than one BG with medium settings alone. Trust me, higher BF2 settings and one GB of ram don't go particularily well toghether.

yes, i have it, and i run it at the max.

And those hic-ups once in a while has more to do with the server. Just try running a server on your own computer. No probs then.

ps, high res textures has more to do with graphic card memory though.

Screw normal noise, it's all about performance. Sure, I don't want a hurricane in my case, but I can put up with a little noise for being able overclock.

Plus, I can just turn up my speakers a little anyway. images/smilies/tongue.gif

the problem is sleeping at night w/ the fans going. I used to run 9 fans. i unplugged 2 and the noise decreased drastically. Although i can still hear it even from my room. The computer is about 15 fta way behind a wall.

Just get some fan speed adjusters. Mine run at around 1500 RPM except for a couple on key parts that I wanna keep ultra cool (HDs & CPU). Nice and quiet, but I can kick it up via my PSU if need be. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I prefer a nice balance between sound and performance. I'm using Akasa Evo33 cooling at the moment and it works a treat images/smilies/smile.gif

The next step for Graphics Card and CPU cooling is nano cooling, which is also called Liquid metal cooling.

just a quick question, will an AMD64 3800+ system require loads of cooling.... my previous experience with AMD=Overheated... are the 64's any better?

Athlon 64 chips consume less power than the P4s and therefore develop less heat.

Speaking from experience, the A64 runs about 5c less than my P4 did, and the whole system in general runs a lot quieter.

The A64s run about 10C less than P4s in general. A64's average around 40C and P4s around 50C in my experience.

If you're looking for the best CPU Heatsink, I'd recommend:

If you get a retail version, "boxed" you get a fan + heatsink which should be fine.. but the most important thing is that you get 3 years warrenty.

You could always get another hsf later if the stock one isn't to your liking. But always buy the boxed version first.
