Default finally going HD

well my dad took the plunge today and infact he's going out tomorrow to take the plunge for the back room too!

today he purchased a Sony Bravia X-series HDTV, 46 inch, 1920x1080 res and all the bells and whistles in sony's vast inventory. its gonna be a blast, they might be getting ready for new models because he got a full £500 off and 5 year extended warranty for nothing.

the sky plus box will also end its short lived time under our old sony WEGA 36 inch CRT, and will be getting replaced by Sky HD.

in the back room, my nanna's 32inch panasonic crt is also going if my dad finds a decently priced samsung or similar 36 to 40inch HDTV tomorrow.

the 360 might just have to take a trip to living room next week images/smilies/biggrin.gif playing on that bravia will rock.

strange thing is my dads probably not even gonna sell the two CRT's. the WEGA was the best in its class for a long time and its still an awesome tv today for SD content...its 100Hz scanning provides an excellenty sharp flicker free image, but hes planning to just give it away to his brother.

the 32 incher will be given away to one of his best friends for a room in his rather vast house in newton under roseberry.

I toyed with the idea of Sky HD, to replace our old box after the investment in a HDTV. Till a) I saw the range of channels available and b) the price. 300quid for the pleasure of HD with the range of channels just don't seem to me like good value.

yeah sky HD is a total rip off. it is better than virgin media HD though, i think...

there's not really a lot you can do to get normal TV in high-def... is the apple iTV (or if it's not out yet, will it be?)

and doesn't BT do some sort of HD service?

good buy with the big TV BTW images/smilies/smile.gif

oh man, got a 1080p sammy for the back room, 40inch

just tested the 360 on it and it rocks.

forza 2 is the only game that doesnt rock, but i think thats because the TV is set up wrong, theres way too much vivid colour, too much contrast....the cars are really jaggy and the details are swamped by overly bright colours and overly dark darks.

all other games looked stunning tho

your not the only one, I saw the same too.

Welcome to the 1080p club, you will definitely be stunned by the quality of newly-released Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies.

I've got a 55" Sony A2000 SXRD, and when I look at my previous TV (32"), I immediately think: "What a tiny TV, how was I ever able to watch anything on that?". images/smilies/lol.gif

I've got a 32" Sharpe down stairs and a V+ HD box connected using 1080i and a Samsung 26" upstairs but no HD feed as yet, again 720p/1080i capability only. Both are great!
