Wants Rick Astley's Babies

//edit: Forget everything down below.
All of a sudden I can't have a browser open and use torrents at the same time. Whenever utorrent and I start the browser which now is Opera (same with IE, though) all goes to shit, and the whole connection seems to be gone. The minute I close utorrent and reopen the browser its all back to normal. My utorrent settings didn't change. HALP! /// Hey guys. I had a hell of a free day today. My Firefox is acting up big time. Started yesterday out of the blue, aka didn't do anything new I can think off. I click it, it doesn't start but loads a firefox.exe that is a bit above 6 MB. It creates a new process like that everytime I click it. Good solution is logging off and on again, but thats rather tiresome. Sometimes it will start after that, but then it'll take forever to load pages. If at all. It seem to unbalance the whole Inet thingy because torrents sometimes stop working, too. I read on some forums about similar problems but none seems to match mine exactly. May have something to do with the xpcom.xpi, cause when I log off that gets terminated (after a while) and all of a sudden Firefox is back up (instantly). I deleted my profile to no avail, even uninstalled FF completly going after some list I found which points out every FF related directory. No worky, at least not on the 2nd time I start FF up... Now I'm on Opera which seems to work, but it doesn't have a proper adblock filter like FF... ANY help?

i've never heard of this problem before, but i've seen spyware do crazy things to internet browsers before. have you tried scanning your pc with ad-aware or a similar program? maybe spyware is interfering with firefox.

IMO the best thing would be to use a custom hosts file and use opera.

rightclick -> block content -> just click on the items you want to block and you can load external blocklists or create one yourself ( http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/ad-block )

OK, nice... I guess I'm gonna give it some time, see whats what. Trying your adblock things right away.
@mgkdk: Yeah, you're right, I kinda had that before as well. The click and only the process loads thing at least. It passed before, so I can just hope. The funny thing is sometimes http doesn't work at all, but the torrents are still going strong. Maybe something in my traffic shaping settings for my router is wrong, but if I set it to automatic Its all wonky for a day or so because it measures in. Maybe there is also a bug in the new FW my router has which could cause the Inet probs. Not the FF probs, though... //edit: Werner, I check with all the prog for spyware that are around. In general I'd say I'm a knowledgeable Computerguy, so its not that likley that I'd catch shit like it...

i can't really offer any assistance to your problem but i have to say that address bar custom searchs that opera has are the greatest friggen thing ever

#look to the edit I made in the first post#
Well, it now looks like the VoIP router is the culprit. I reflashed to its origin state, as recommended by an IT friend of mine, reset it up, fired up utorrent and http'ing as much as I can as a sort of burn in test... They offer a special low level flash mode that I did, and hopefully it will do... Otherwise I gotta get them to send me a new router. Again. On the other side, FF still fucked me with a silly little problem that is inrelated to the big picture here, and it seems like I'm happy with Opera, especially the built in Session saver (FF addon never worked that well for me) and the last tabs waste basket... I did have to look around a bit on how to disable the built in torrent client.

Ooh, how DO you disable to torrent client, because always annoys me. It would be great if it was any good, but it isn't.

type about:config into your addressbar -> enter
go to bittorrent -> uncheck enable box -> save -> restart opera -> done

So simple! Cheers!
And I agree with The_Finn about the custom searches, typing "i <query>" into the address bar to search google images is awesome. As is highlighting and right clicking and searching! I love Opera! All it needs is a Web Developer plugin and an FTP plugin like Firefox and it would be perfect!

So, I finally figured out what my problem was. The countless emails with my router manufacturer sure as hell didn't help, and tbh, it looks like it wasn't the routes fault.
It just coincided that I used my router again and made winxp update that fucked with my modded tcpip.sys. It reset the halfopen connections back to 10, 8 of which utorrent was using. Pretty clear that ICQ + IRQ + gtalk + some http made that go nuts. Thx to lvlord it seems to work now as it has all the time before... Also I'm back on Firefox. Some little things about Opera just didn't float my boat. SO, this is just to let you know, the prob why FF wouldn't open I couldn't solve, but since I installed the US version it hasn't happened anyway...
