Default Free Anti-Spyware?

Guys, I'm still in Utah and I don't have access to all my software at home. My laptop is starting to run really slow which usually means spyware.

Now, normally I would just save my settings and format the bitch, but I didn't bring any of my system restore disks or my optical drive.

What I need is something less than my "nuclear option" of a format to get my baby back up to snuff, preferably something free since I have anti-spyware software at home. I don't feel inclined to buy another copy.

Also, it must be downloadable since I don't have my optical drive.

Try Spybot and AdAware.

I looked at AVG (from the antivirus thread) the free version does not do spyware.

I will check those out. Thanks guys.

EDIT:
Is anyone else having problems with the AdAware site?

maybe the spyware itself blocks the page?

have you ever tried to kill the spyware manually? (by stopping the processes via the task-manager, deleting strange entrys in the registry-autorun and then delete the files manually)

should work fine as well in safe-mode (is that right for "abgesicherter modus" in english?)

Very possible. You might have to download it on another computer and bring it over with a flash drive.

I also recommend Spybot and AdAware for getting rid of stuff. You might install SpywareBlaster after it's clean to help prevent further infection too.

Spybot S&D and AdAware are my favorites, so I'll just nod and agree with everyone above me who already mentioned them!

I've used SUPER AntiSpyware free version a few times with very good results, it was able to clean off what other programs left behind and even restore permissions and other settings the infections tampered with. It's a thorough bit of kit.

Yep, they each can find different stuff, so it's a good idea to use both.

Then throw in AVG to keep viruses out, and you should be all set.
