Ok, I've had this D-Link DI-524 router for almost a year now and haven't had any major problems.
All of a sudden yesterday, my upload speed was slashed to almost 0, and I could barely browse. So I bypassed the router and hooked my desktop directly into my cable modem and everything was back to normal. Then I tried getting my router back into the equation and now I can't even browse while going through the router. Before, I had a static IP setup in Network Connections so I could forward some ports and I've had it like that for several months with no problems, but when I switched to going directly through my cable modem I set it to obtain the IP automatically. Now it seems that no matter what settings I put in there I can't use the internet through my router. So does the router need replaced, or do I need to check some other settings? I can get to the admin panel of the router still. Please help!!!!!!!!! |

Sounds odd, but have you tried resetting the router (unplug for a few seconds then power up again)? Our internet slows right down now and again but a router reset usually cures all.

yeah, check that. you might need to check some other settings in both your computer and the router. make sure that the router is giving your computer an IP, not the one from just the modem. usually it would be something like 192.168.x.x for your computer. are you connected to the router directly or wirelessly?

![]() I forgot to add that my laptop isn't able to connect through the wireless either. I'm on a desktop with a LAN cable going directly into the Router (atleast I was, not I'm going straight to the cable modem) Even when I told it to obtain an IP automatically, it was giving me the same IP that I had set as my static IP: 192.168.0.177 |

I think I'll try hitting the reset button on the back and see what happens. It's supposed to reset all the settings, but I haven't really changed hardly any settings, but it's worth a try I guess....

Reset the router to default settings. That will tell you if it is the router.

took a look at your user manual online. under WAN, use dynamic IP, and LAN, choose something like 192.168.0.100 for a starting IP address for DHCP. if that doesn't fix the problem for your desktop first, then the router might be bad.

Alot of the times, all it needs is a good reset, I've seen that fix ALOT of unknown problems in the past with a few brands of routers.

jeffy, does it only happen when you have a bittorrent program running??
that's the case with me: if I start any bittorrent program (utorrent, bitcomet, azureus...), my router flips and nobody can browse. |

Ok guys, I hit the resest button on the back of the router. It didn't seem to reset my settings because my ports are all still forwarded and everything, but it seems to have simply restarted the router, something I had already done multiple times through the admin panel
But it seems to have fixed whatever problem I was having. Everything seems to be back to normal now . I can browse fine both from my desktop and my laptop. Thanks again for the responses. I'll let you know if this is just a temporary fix

Jeffy, I'm assuming you haven't done any changes to the router in the first place to invoke all these weirdness. if reseting the router didn't help, then you may need a new router. I have the DLINK wireless as well(wireless B forgot model #). Another thing is, how does your router connect to the cable/internet? does it obtain ip automatically from modem? or is it PPope, or it's a static wan ip that you have? Thirdly, I can never get the static LAN ips to work. If i set them up, my router wouldn't connect to the internet or it'll keep reseting itself. I hate the dlink. When it busts, i'll buy a linksys.
