| Wants Rick Astley's Babies | You COULD run your PC like that, but chances are, its going to run unstable... So for the dual channel to run best, you gotta have 2 identical ram sticks... So, you're reight, 2x512 or 2x1024 If you stick to only one stick, you will loose something like 3-5% of the performance Buba

| you'll probably have to get rid of those 256mb sticks... 1) just go with the 1gig stick, but that's not dual channel 2) change for 2x512mb | |

| oh yeah, why get rid of the 2x256 sticks? they are PQI brand lol bet u havent heard of them the 2x512 are AENEON and are pc3200 whcih is 400mhz i think? (btw what does the mhz do?) is it a good deal in terms of your country? i could have got the same stuff for less but then the place is further away, so time+petrol will end up making it cost more. ![]() | |

It's not a bad deal. A couple of months ago I bought 2x512MB of OCZ Premier RAM - supposed to be some pretty good RAM and it had aggressive timings. Speed was PC3200 (DDR400). Unfortunately, My computer runs unstable when I run the RAM at the speed it should be run... This is actually really annoying - I paid extra for the faster RAM, and now I have to underclock it, even though my Mobo should be able to handle it just fine (and I thought CPU should be happy with it too). I paid £83 for that RAM - I'm not quite sure how that translates. But it's somewhat cheaper now: This is the stuff I bought Oh yeah, and PQI are cool - I have a very nice USB Memory stick from them which is a really great piece of kit. And for a recommendation of what to do with the old RAM? I put my old 512 stick in my Mum's computer... Quote:

French though, so gotta treat her rough to keep her happy. 1989 Toyota MR2 Mk1 - owned it for two years. Love it loads. Currently undergoing a suspension upgrade... 1987 Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC - A project car that had Headgasket issues when I bought it. I've never driven it... yet... | ||

you got a slow pc anyway, <1800Mhz for sure, most likely even <1200Mhz... 256MB should be enough to run Windows XP with all the eyecandy turned off.

| With WinXP you should have at lest 512MB RAM. Anything less is just annoying. I payed $120 to have an extra 256MB of RAM in my laptop (a grand total of 512MB) and I'm haven't ever regreted it. | |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | bigfoot- the first Athlon boards still had SDRAM on them, and you can still run a more modern processor like the new Semprons on them with a BIOS upgrade... so that would be worth a 512 SD.... |
