Default I got another new toy...

Thought I posted about this, but I guess not. I won a 400 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 SATA HD in a forum's contest and installed it a few days ago. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Code:
HDDs: [Used] [Free] [Size]
 WD 74 GB Raptor [SATA] (C:) 37.1GB 32.14GB 69.23GB (NTFS)
 Seagate 400 GB File Dump [SATA] (D:) 214.23GB 158.38GB 372.61GB (NTFS)
 Maxtor 250 GB File Dump [SATA] (E:) 108.59GB 125.17GB 233.76GB (NTFS)
Total: 359.92GB 315.68GB 675.6GB
That's "725" GB, 675 "true" GB. images/smilies/biggrin.gif images/smilies/twisted.gif

Tested the read/write speeds on my hard drives using HD Tach: http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public...request=HdTach

Here's my results using the long bench (32mb zones). My drives are in RED. Drives from the program's database are in BLUE. I have a Pentium 4 3.0C GHz.

I defragged each drive 2 or 3 times after actually defragging them to make sure they were 100% defragged.

74 GB WD Raptor via SATA on the motherboard (10,000 RPM, 8? MB cache)

400 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 via SATA on the motherboard (7200 RPM, 8 MB cache)

250 GB Maxtor ? via SATA via a SIIG SATA-to-PCI card (7200? RPM, 8? MB cache)

I would love a new HD, only got 160 GB at the moment over 3 HDs...
But the DivX Playa and the DVD Burner have had my budget...

Buba

//edit: Do the stats actually mean, that the Raptor is the slowest?

//edit: Ah, no, is see... the average read is higher with the raptor...

Burst means randomly accessing the HD, right?

Yeah, I was like WTF @ the burst speed being higher on the 400 GB too. Perhaps someone here knows why that happened...

images/smilies/eek.gif I was just thinking what I could possibly do to actually use up my 320gigs of storage, but now you have more than that on a single drive!

I answered it pretty quickly though - more music! images/smilies/tongue.gif images/smilies/lol.gif
