as a resident of the state where this stupidity occurred, I am ashamed...

but then again who would want a laptop that some high school student has carried around for 4 years? From what I have heard most of those laptops are in questionable condition (i.e. broken screens and damaged power adaptors) so to make some of them usable its going to cost more than buying a new one. Just doesn't seem to be worth the $50 and wasted time to get one.

damn images/smilies/ohmy.gif

although, i've seen much MUCH worse. when "Electroworld" opened their first shop in budapest, they had very very low opening sale prices, to attract customers away from mediamarkt and stuff. washing machines, microwaves, computer hardware, everything was in sale, so not only multimedia junkies were there, but people who wanted some new house equipment as well. the prices were so ridiculous, that a few 10,000 people wanted to go in, and were standing there in que already ONE DAY, before the shop opened. the shop was located on the outskirts of the city luckily, but even so, all the highways passing by there were literally blocked and grounded to a hold images/smilies/wacko.gif i had to go in that direction that morning, and i spent 3-4hours in the car with my dad till finally we could pass through the gazillion cars that were simply blocking all the ways in the are because they couldnt park anywhere. i've never seen such a chaos and a mass in my life, and all this was on a wednesday, imagine if it was on a weekend day images/smilies/mellow.gif

These old iBooks are really hard to crack except for the parts you mentioned. The rest of it will easily survive a riot like that or a 4 year long abuse of some kid using it.

Haha, that reminds me of the pictures of the first Media Markt opening in Poland floating around the web ca. one year ago. Pure madness.

Some pictures here.

finally found some old article and few pics. as for prices, coffeemachines were offered for 50cents, so you can imagine the rest... (2002. february that was). most of the pics we're way before the actual opening, kinda in the early hours of the madness.

See Czech Dream (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402906/) for a hilarious documentary on manipulating masses to show up at the opening of a new mall. The twist? The mall never existed...
