Default Internet connection problem

I am using ASUS P5B-VM SE motherboard and I am having internet connection problem since I start using this computer almost one year ago.
at first, the build-in Ethernet card doesn't turn on as the computer boots, so I may have to reboot several times to get it working.
Also, the computer sometimes pop up a message saying I just pulled off the cable and the connection is broken. Sometimes it is so bad that it constantly switches to connected to disconnected so that I cannot use the internet at all!
Recently I bought a PCI Ethernet card and see what happens, but the computer still disconnect itself without a reason. Is the motherboard the blame (that it is flawed from the beginning) or is that my weak 350W PSU that causes the computer become unstable?

if you can isolate the problem, I may have an good excuse to tell my dad to upgrade my computer!!!images/smilies/twisted.gif

How do you connect to the interweb? A router -> modem?

Maybe the problem lies in a faulty cable...since you have the problem with both the built-in ethernet and the PCI card...

i'm using a cable modem, and i've tried using the modem's USB output, the computer worked for sometime until it mysteriously reboot itself. So I kept using the ethernet cable instead

350W doesn't sound much though for a modern PC. Can you tell us the other specs? I've always run at least 480W with my ASUS A8N-32.

350Watt is quite low power for such a system. Did you make it yourself?

I would certainly check for spyware thoroughly first though.

my AVG anti-spyware's demo is out of date already, any suggestions?
no i don't arrage the system myself, it's kinda a long story but put it simply, I didn't know what I should be looking for so I have a guy who sorted out what to buy. Clearly I now regret doing so

1) Try a different cable
2) Make sure its not your router/modem thats cutting out, cos sometimes a weak signal can give that same effect of "cable unplugged" problem
3) Makesure your pc is not infested with virus or spyware.
4) Re-install the drivers for the network card or the onboard network for good measure.

As for PSU problems, does your PC randomally reboot for no reason? If thats the case, then its probably the PSU problem.

the usual symptoms of a weak PSU is either BSOD, random rebooting, hdd write failure, graphics acceleration failure etc.

Have you cleaned the Ethernet Ports? My money was on the cable though... Try a different router. And don't think your LAN not working is a symptom of a bad/weak PSU, you'd have completely different and way worse probs then...
