Yeah, it's just a bunch of 10GB ethernet links between universities. NLR (National Lambda Rail, sounds like something out of half life eh?) is MUCH faster, as it was designed to move huge data sets between different super computing facilities.

It's mostly just designed for universities, and won't be coming to a cable/phone company near you, unfortunately images/smilies/sad.gif

Well, my connection, which is ADSL2+ gets up to 24mbit. It's pretty fast.

Who are you with? Adam or Internode?

And what is your actual sync speed? 24 mbit is just the "theoretical" max speed.

Still I'm with Adam, thinking of changing to Node, and currently get 15-17 mbit/sec.

yeah, even back when i was still at RIT, we had I2, and the speeds were amazing, but the content was much more limited. no commercial content at that point, all academic, but the pipe was immense.

http://www.rit.edu/network/mrtg-inet/internetall.html

the graphs of throughput are f-ing amazing... especially the I1 and I2 yearly aggregate -

http://www.rit.edu/network/mrtg-inet/inetall-year.png

yeah, RIT's total bandwidth is over 350 Mbps.... i remember those days, when i could download OS updates from Apple at around 4 MB/s, maxing out the hard drive write speed on my Apple G3 266....
