First off, let me point out to you that there is no third option in this poll saying "something else". It's simply an A or B question. Got it?
![]() If I had to get one for listening to music, which should it be? iPhone http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/ It'd be without an AT&T plan, i.e. no phone usage. Just Wifi + music + camera.
iPod Touch http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features.html Basically, double the space (16GB). That's really important. Summary Worth having to deal with only 8GB of space in exchange for having the camera? What about hackability / web features? Like does the iPod have the cool Google Maps thing? Input needed.

If you use the iPhone as MP3 player + camera, i doubt you'll have it with you all the time...and that diminishes the importance of the camera...
Better to have your cell phone equiped with a camera (you can get decent ones for a fraction of the iPhone price...) so you have that with you all the time and to have an MP3 player thats a GOOD MP3 player with you when you need it. so: iPod Touch because it's a better MP3 player and the advantage of the camera doesn't really apply because you won't have it with you when you need to shoot something. |

If you need the extra space, there's no doubt, the Touch.

^ So you want the iPhone?
![]() No, the question really is: do you want to sacrifice 8 Gb of music to a 2MP camera? And would you use the Camera that often, considering, as you say yourself, you "don't have a cell phone cause you don't go anywhere often enough"? Maybe you can buy for the same money the iPod Touch + a better Camera for when you go somewhere. On the other hand, you always wish you had your camera with you. /me pulls his hair out! I brought a bag and carry it with me everywhere.
That way I can have a still camera, video camera, mobile phone, ipod, nintendo ds and audio recorder and carry it all with me everywhere. My answer - get a bag and buy an iPod Touch as well as a digital camera. No mobile phone camera will be as good as a half decent digital camera that doesn't do anything else. |

I dunno.

Yeah, I'd rather have the more space and carry around a camera with me. For those rare cases where I'm not on vacation but just doing something else and only have the iWhatever, oh well. I've done fine until now. Problem solved, woot! Thanks all.

It's simple really, if you already have a phone go for the Touch, but as you dont have a phone get the iPhone (If you can live with the monthly payments)

I can't. It's an assload.
If I were to get an iPhone, it'd be off-network.

this statement alone makes it pretty obvious you should get the Touch

It's all down to how much you value iPhone's camera, IMO what makes the iPhone special is the ability to go online through your service provider, it's VERY useful to checking directions/traffic while driving, and because of that, I am considering return my iPod for an iPhone when my current cellphone contract ends early next month.

The camera would be nice, but I'll just carry around a camera instead and get more music.

I love my iPhone but I have cell phone service with AT&T. I'd say though if you aren't interested in getting the phone/data service, the touch is probably the better choice.

EDGE may seem fast to you if you've never used EVDO from Sprint or Verizon. Imagine the iPhone with those speeds, especially Rev. A.

Viper,
If you aren't going to use a cellular network at all, there's no point in getting a phone. Some hacking will be required to even get the phone out of it's activation mode. The touch works just fine, can be jailbroken and 3rd party apps installed. That being said, the iPhone is rumored to have a better display, and there are some display problems that plagued week 36 and week 37 production touches. Not sure if the issue is fixed, but I had to return mine because of it. Other negatives to the touch is that is uses the polished back like the older iPods and scratches easy, and the iPhone does not have that backing. A case or sleeve is a must for the touch. On the plus side, I think 16gigs is the sweet spot for personal data storage. That should cover most, if not all of your music, plus room for movie storage. If not, Smart Playlists are extremely useful (I've only recently discovered their usefulness). Get the touch.

The camera is still just a cell phone camera... if you're not in need of a cell phone there's no point getting an iPhone.

It's 2MP but like most other cell phones I'm sure it has a crappy lens. My cell has 3.2MP and auto-focus and still the pictures are kinda of weak for anything serious. So yeah, I wouldn't factor the camera into it.
