Default ipod s/n serials on the back(Do you know how to read them?)

yea well today i got a new ipod for free again with headphones. the question here is that, when some people turn up with out the recipt of their ipod they set your warrenty as the date of manufacture on the back of your ipod, so i was wondering hwo they knew. e.g. my previous on (4th one) s/n was 2x43305xpnt

so in result i am guessing 2x4 =2004
43 = June 3rd?

anyone got a better idea or know how to read them?

I don't know that they can get them from the serial number (unless its a special feature for non-us iPods), because my serial number has more letters than numbers, and most of the letters are too large to be hexadecimal. Also the numbers i do have (3280), do not deconstruct to the date the warranty would have run out (July, 2004).

it doesn't run on a Hexadecimal or octal numbering system... I've tried it as well... I tried this way and it has worked on all of my friends iPods.
heres a number from jasonchiu's seriel
First number is unknown( should be country of manufacture)
X4 = 2004, X5 = 2005......
43 = Week of the year manufactured

the rest is unknown... I guess it is the capacity and so on
