Will putting $150 more dollars towards a car really accomplish much?

The PSP is a rather good tool. I bought a Jap one a while back, as the UK release is September 1st. It's been a load of fun.

1. It plays movies - out of the box.
2. It plays MP3s - out of the box.
3. It has a great screen.
4. Games are good quality, but will need time for plenty of "new" titles.
5. GT4 is coming ( do you really need another reason? ).
6. It has wifi and a browser that seems to work OK.
7. Update firmware over wifi.
8. If you have a 1.x version you can pirate games with it.

Go to any PSP site today and read the headline article - there is a lot that has been changed. Most notable is the addition of a web browser.

Both my brother and I have a Japanese PSP. His has firmware 1.5, I rather stupidly upgraded mine, as at the time the homebrew and loader scene was rather small and didn't seem to be progressing to quickly.

Sadly only days after I updated Fast Loader was released and now he can play dozens of iso's...and I have a crappy web browser. images/smilies/sad.gif

So far we have downloaded and/or ripped about 7 games and they play perfect on his v1.5 firmware. Plus he has emulators for just about all systems (SNES, NES, GBA, Genesis, Neo Geo, MAME, Amiga) working and can now play those old ROMS as well.

Plus is plays movies, MP3's and displays pics. I love it!!!

get a cracked version (just about anything except for 2.0) and you can do just about anything you want to do.

Not true. It needs to be V1.0 or V1.5.

V1.51, 1.52 & 2.0 will not run home brew applications.

There are dozens of sites out there that will explain all of this, I like www.pspupdates.com. So take a look there before you buy anything and they can explain what you can run on each and how to ensure that you are getting the right firmware.

Well, the word on the pipe is that the usual groups have figured out how to downgrade the psp's firmware. They're still testing it to make sure that it doesnt fry anything but it should be out in the next few days.

I am thinking of getting a psp..but I'd hate to buy UMD versions of the games I already have..... wouldnt want to spend twice on the same thing , u see. If its possible to copy any game into its mem stick from a PC , then I guess it's be worth it.... images/smilies/unsure.gif

PSP - i had a very long playtest at a shop the other day, the employees even let me play their own games cos the store had none in stock (and i was gonna pay em cash for it if they had it in stock). i must say i was well impressed with the console itself and the quality it oozed in terms of externally (the unit) and graphics wise, its definately a winner

ive reviewed a DS which i had for a few weeks and i must say i only use the one screen at a time, two screens are a gimmick for me and i found it fiddly especially in games like spiderman to quickly switch to the touch screen at a second's notice, only to find i cant find the stylus and dont want to spoil the screen with my fingers

IMHO, the psp comes out on top, in terms of choice of games also. also all of these feautures it has, mp3 player, movie player, interweb browser etc really make it a multimedia machine

im gonna get one this friday, should make great in car entertainment for those long trips or even to the local supermarket
