Rep Power: 15 | Another advice a newbie MacBook owner use: Be extra careful when you close the screen. Guide the screen all the way down with your hands - don't just simply slam the lid close. The raised notches on top of the screen (which elevates the screen away from the keyboard ever so slightly when in the closed position) actually slices through the edge of the palm rest which causes cracks. In my case, a small chunk of plastic actually broke off the palm rest. You don't want your expensive purchase to end up looking like one of these: http://www.flickr.com/groups/crackedmacbook/

Rep Power: 32 | Good advice. If you close the lid completely during shutdown it goes to sleep and then continues shutdown when you re-open it! (at least with the settings I have now) So I often leave it 90% shut after initiating shutdown. I accidentally stained my palmrest by using it with chalk dust on my hand. Do you know of a good way to clean it? And the clicker is a little weird at times, might have something caught underneath it. So I guess I'm trying to say, use some kind of protection or be careful.
