Car: Toyota MR2 Mk1, Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC, Peugeot 309 Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() | Sorry, this is strictly speaking ICE (In Car Entertainment) but I couldn't figure if it was more technology or car Q&A and couldn't find a more appropriate section for it. If someone feels it should be moved, feel free. Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help me out. The original stereo in my old Peugeot has decided it's had enough and the left side sound has begun to pop and squeak like crazy. Spoke to one of my mates who's a radio expert and his advice was: Time for a new headunit. I was trying to put it off for as long as possible (need new tires and brakes for MOT later this month, student finances, etc... not easy) but I can't stand silent 1 and a half hour trips (time it takes to get to my Mum's) for much longer. I need a replacement. So, I won't be buying Speakers this month, perhaps next month if I can find some money from a job or parents after I graduate. My budget for the headunit is £150 (not including cost of ISO connectors that I will need). After all, at that price I'm already paying more than I paid for the car! (will put up pics in the appropriate thread when I get some decent ones) I've been seriously considering the JVC KD-G611 (Actual Website or Place I may buy from). Has anyone got this or anything similar? Any recommendations? I chose that one as it has a front input port which I can plug my MP3 player into the back, should be a good upgrade from the cassette adapter I currently use. Also, it has 4x19W RMS (or 4x50W peak) which should be sufficient when I replace the speakers. I hope. I'm definately not buying an amp... if I can avoid it. And I really would like to. I was also considering an equivalent Aiwa (The Aiwa CDC-R504M) for the same reasons. It has to be able to power 4x12cm speakers, the front two of which I will (hopefully soon) replace with component speakers, i.e. tweeters+mid. So, any suggestions? Should I avoid either? Also, does anyone know of a good place in England where I can buy one reasonably cheap with good customer service? Local Halfords is c**p, will probably buy online. At the same time, anyone recommend speakers? More importantly, how on Earth do I match speaker power ratings to amp power ratings (e.g. what speakers do I get for above amp)??? Any info/help/advice is greatly appreciated! -Max

French though, so gotta treat her rough to keep her happy. 1989 Toyota MR2 Mk1 - owned it for two years. Love it loads. Currently undergoing a suspension upgrade... 1987 Toyota MR2 Mk1 SC - A project car that had Headgasket issues when I bought it. I've never driven it... yet... |
