Default Karaoke software/audio extractor

Not sure what exactly I need, but something which can extract the audio from a song and just give me the music/instrumental bit cutting all the vocals out without loss of any other layers of music.Any clue what software I can use?

I don't think there is such software. If there is, I doubt it does a good job. The problem is that that we get (whether CD or MP3) is in stereo, with both vocal and instrumental track built into both channels.

Although each instrument gets it's own track in the recording process, there is simply no way to separate them once they've been "merged".

I doubt it will really work.

There is karaoke software that can play files with the instrumental track in it and that can show the lyrics.

Those are, IIRC, kind of midi files.

There are plenty of free versions probably, but i'm not in the mood to look for them now.
