Default Looking for a gaming mouse

I have decided to replace my current wireless keyboard and mouse suite with a new one. Although I like my Microsoft keyboard, it has recently been having problems maintaining the wireless connection and the action of the keyboard is starting to show it's age. Since this is part of a set I am taking the opportunity to replace both the mouse and keyboard.

I'm looking for a mouse, wired or wireless with a decent weight and a scroll wheel that communicates the "notches" well. My current mouse was one of the first with a smooth scroll wheel and it is not good for changing weapons.

A tilt wheel would be nice as well. I've never used a mouse with the forward/back browsing buttons, but I would not mind trying it as long as they are not positioned where they might get bumped.

Anyone who uses a mouse that fits these criteria please let me know. My local electronics stores only carry a few gaming mice and some cheap ones, the rest are bundled with keyboards. I would greatly appreciate any first-hand knowledge of what to look for and what to avoid.

Cheers.

Logitech G5 (wired) or G7 (wireless). I got my G5 for $25 after rebate.

I just RMA'd my G5 today (scroll wheel issue, I think mine was defective), but I still recommend it. Logitech's support/warranty is awesome as I'll be getting a brand-new mouse pretty soon. Before the G5 I owned an MX500 and I only replaced that because the pads on the bottom were totally worn out (nearly three years of heavy gaming usage).

Hmm, mine is having issues too. It'll scroll when I click down and I can make it scroll without doing the little clicks. Perhaps I should RMA mine too...

Regardless, I still recommend it. images/smilies/smile.gif

Thank you both. I will probably go with the wired model since I am trying to get away from the problems of gaming with a wireless.

Has anyone had any problems with the Logitech drivers? I've had difficulty with them in the past so I avoided Logitech (attempted to flash my BIOS to fix a problem caused by the G15 keyboard - ended up having to replace the BIOS chip)

What motherboard are you running? I think there might be an issue with Asus and the G15, but I'm not sure about the other Logitech products.

Bought my Logitech MX518 a month ago, and I love it. Very accurate, variable-DPI-on-the-fly, and more than enough buttons for me, plus it looks really cool images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The Razer Copperhead is a fantastic mouse. In fact, I'm using one right now.

I've never had any of the previously mentioned issues with it.

I have a logitech mx510 (this is the wired one). There is the exact one that is wireless, although I, for some reason, feel odd playing or doing anything with a wireless. I have been pretty happy with mine, and it has 7 programable buttons.

You really, really should. Makes life a lot easier being able to set the DPIs to how you wish and setting all 5 different DPI modes (rather than the default 3).

I have max low for the first, what I like for middle, and max DPI for the top. #2 and #5 and 1/2 way inbetween each. Makes it easy to find the right sensitivity for what I need to do ingame.

i think these mice are overkill...
i've got a microsoft intellieye optical, which is quite old now but goes for 15 quid. its got 5 buttons that don't get in your way, the scrollwheel is just as you want it and it hasn't failed me in five years. i recently got me a new new one just because the old one looked a bit shabby now and at 15 quid you can get a new one for just such a reason. images/smilies/wink.gif

I use a MX518, GREAT mouse. Haven't had any problems with it since I got it a year and a half ago.

But the G7 might be my next purchase...and yours too images/smilies/smile.gif. They are selling them here on base for dirt cheap. But I don't like that there is no
forward button on the left side of the G7, which is keeping me from getting it at them moment.

Yeah, that was a big minus for me too when I got my G5, but I've switched to using side-click on the scroll wheel for forward/backward. It's actually a lot easier/better and I've literally used my side button like twice ever. images/smilies/lol.gif
