| .sa = bad driver! | The flash-based iPod is looking pretty cool too. It's cheaper than others of similar size and comes with a built-in battery. |

I have a titanium powerbook and it was the best $2800 I have EVER spent on a laptop. I work in an environment with a huge number of Dell machines (250+), and after working with them, I would NEVER personally own a Dell. I have had to replace about 80% of the hard drives in our Dell Workstations, and the dell laptops we have had have died and needed to be sent back for repair more times than I care to keep track of. A $950 Mac (we would have to upgrade it for what we would be doing with it) that we can use any monitor with, is an awesome proposition, instead of the $500 machines that REQUIRE a minimum of 10 service calls in their first year. I used to think mac's were useless, until i had a chance to actually use one for more than a couple of minutes. OS X is a major advance on operating system technology, and I find it a much more productive environment to work in. Granted I keep PCs with windows (more with linux though) around for some things (like gaming, and x86 software development), but I have found there is very little you can do on a PC that you can't on a Mac. And I would buy one of those Mac Mini's if they were more upgradeable (id like to have more RAM), but im going to hold out, and save up for a 2.5GHz G5 with a nice 23 inch flat panel.

I used to absolutely hate Macs as well, but I love them now. I find most people hate Macs out of ignorance or as a reaction against their image, but if you look at them from a functional or technical persepctive, there is really nothing to hate: they are amazing machines. OSX is one of the best operating systems ever made and the raw power of the new G5 systems is amazing. I do a lot of graphics work, and if I could afford to ditch my PC and get a G5 tower my productivity would go way up. Rendering an animation on a G5 would take a fraction of the time it would on a similar PC. The only thing that is stopping me is the price, but saying that Macs are "evil" or bad because of the price is like criticising a specialty automaker like Porsche or Ferrari for being too expensive. I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these Mac Mini's. The only thing that is stopping me is that they are G4 based, not G5. If it had a G5 chip in it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I'll just have to continue saving for a G5 PowerMac. ![]()

Wow- I didn't know Apple had a sense of humour! Awesome stuff! On a different note - WHY THE HELL ARE PEOPLE SO MD ABOUT IPODS? I will continue to tell you all NOT to buy an iPod as you are paying over the odds just because it's called an iPod. Apple must be well chuffed that they've already conquered the Hard Drive Player market, I mean, I say to my friends that I'm buying a hard drive player and they're like "huh?!". I then have to explain to them that it's like an iPod *sigh* iPod seriously do not make the best hard drive players, they are simply the name that people know them by (like Hoover and Sellotape). Currently Creative and Rio are producing some of the best hard drive players, although I am personally going to be buying a Coxon player, as it allows direct line-in recording, which is just what I want ![]()
