MAG 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor problem

I just bought the MAG 22" LCD Monitor from BestBuy, it works on it's native resolution (1680x1050), but there's no way I can play games at that resolution with my 7600GT, so I used 960x600 resolution instead. Here's the problem, the bottom of the game sreen is cut off. There's no way of adjusting it to where I can see the whole game screen. It's not just with GTR2, I tried TDU, it has the same problem.



Is there anyway to fix this? If now I guess I'll have to return it. As for driver I'm using the Nvidia 93.81_forceware_winxp2k_english driver. I also installed the monitor drivers that came with the monitor. Still no go. Any ideas? Thanks.

I also found out that it seems like my monitor doesn't recognize the 960x600 resolution. Here's a picture showing that.

Sounds like the monitor has a shitty scaler, I would take it back. Dude, Dell has a 20" widescreen monitor for only $219. You could probably find a coupon and get it even cheaper. 22" is a waste IMO, since it shares the same resolution with 20" monitors that means the 22" has larger pixels (less sharp).

usually 20" is non-widescreen. I want a ws monitor. But yea, I'm going to take it back since I won't stand for the jagged look in games. Is there anyway to find out if a monitor supports 960x600? Cuz they only show the native res in the stores. Thanks for the reply.

^ Correct thing to do; can you get a demo of your next monitor at the screen res you need in the shop before buying? Definitely a try before you buy, I have an ACER 19" which is ok but only recommends one screen res, but that does me OK.

Maybe at Best Buy they only sell 22" widescreen, but everywhere else 20" was the first size for widescreen back in the day. Here are some 20" monitors at Newegg. And that Dell I mentioned is a widescreen too. As for your other question, perhaps emailing the manufacturer will get you the info about the supported resolutions. They probably don't publish that info anymore since LCDs look like crap when displaying non-native resolutions. Upgrade your 7600GT and you'll be fine

CVG Yep thats what I was told about my ACER in the shop (non native res looks 'horrible') and why ACER strongly rec using only one specific res.

I'm waiting for the DX10 cards come out before upgrading, so that'll be a while. As of right now tho, returning the monitor and get one that supports 960x600 is probably my best option. I still want a 22" though, I saw an Acer that's 22" on sale before, I've used my Acer 17" for over 2 years, I use 1024x768 to play games (which is not it's native res) and it still looks fine, so I think I'll just get another Acer. Use 840x525 instead. It's a bit smaller, but it is exactly half of 1680x1050 thus it scales perfectly. The image will be sharp as with the native res.

I have a Viewsonic VG1930WM and I can tell you that the monitor sucks at 960x600.The image goes beyond the edges.

Samsung syncmaster 940bw 19" and it doesnt work, its so big its for a blind man

Is it just goes over the edges a little bit or does a major portion get cut off like the first picture in my first post?

I think I'm going to have to get a better card. Is the 7900GS a good choice? What about the ATi 1950GT? I'm going to play 1440x900 with it. I've found a 7900GS KO for $130 AR, and the 1950GT for $115 AR on Newegg. Are those good prices? Please post or pm me a link if I can get it for cheaper. And between those two cards, which one would you choose? I have ECS KN1 Lite motherboard which has a Nvidia NF4 chipset, would the 7900GS KO perform better on it? Thanks.

What about getting a 19" widescreen? Those have a native resolution of 1440x900 and your 7600GT should be able to handle it.

I'm keeping this 22", cuz watching movie on it is pretty awesome. The 7600GT can barely handle 1440x900 with no AA and only medium quality. I've seen used 7600GT sold for $70-80, so that's only another $50 to upgrade to the 1950GT. But is the 1950GT good enough to play at 1440x900 with 4xAA and High details (in TDU)?

Will I have problem running an ATi x1950GT on my ECS KN1 Lite (NF4 chipset) mobo? I'm really thinking about getting the x1950GT. Thanks for the replies.

There shouldn't be a problem. Nearly every ECS board I've had crapped out on me after a while, so there's that.
