Thanks for the info, cuz I always have Nvidia chipset with Nvidia cards (my previous setup is a ECS Nforce3-A with a FX5500 video card). So I'm just a little bit worried about compatibility. And another related question, there are two versions of the 1950GT, a 256mb and a 512mb, should I go for the 512mb (it's $15 more)? Thanks.

I was almost decided on the X1950GT 512mb after seeing some benchmarks at higher res, but someone on another forums suggest the 8600GT, is that a better card? Compared to the X1950GT 512MB? I will overclock bother cards (air cooling). Will the 8600GT at least keep up with the X1950GT? If both cards performs the same, I would go 8600GT for the DX10 support, although it's not a high priority, DX10 support is still nice. And would new games like Crysis and Hellgate London be able to run on DX9? Thanks.

I'm probably going to keep this card for two years, so I think a X1950GT should still do alright in 2 years. And that article brings up a good point, although the 8600GT supports DX10, we don't know if it'll perform at least acceptably in DX10. If all we get is 20fps then it's pretty much useless. I think I'll go with the X1950GT 512mb.

Got the X1950GT today, but got some problem with the Catalyst Control Center. I got this error message when I try to use it.
![]() Is it ok if I don't install CCC? What overclocking too do you recommand? RivaTuner says it doesn't recognize the driver. Thanks.

You installed .NET already? I hated ATi's drivers back when I had my 9800 Pro because they started forcing the CCC on you (which are built off .NET). Hmm, did you do a proper uninstall of the nVidia drivers? I used to use a program called DriverCleaner until it stopped being free.

I reinstalled everything and kinda got CCC to work. But none of my games are working, TDU is giving me a black screen, and GTR2 is giving me this error msg. Any ideas? Anyone know any good hacked drivers for this card? Thanks.
![]() If anyone is deciding between this card and the 7900GS, go with the 7900GS. I have no problem whatsoever with my 7600GT. ATi drivers=fail.

You could try the Omega drivers. Just make sure you're cleaning out the remnants of the old driver .dll files before installing new ones. Use this (I know it's old, but at least it's free)

Wish I'd seen this a bit sooner, as it's rather simple.
Open up CCC in advanced mode, bring up the 3D menu and go to "More settings" and check the "Support DXT texture formats" box. The obvious apply and okay out will finish the job.

Thanks for the replies, but after I uninstalled CCC and the ATi drivers, and installed just the newest Sapphire drivers, it seems to have worked. Then I used the newest ATiTool to oc, currently running at 614/648 (gpu/mem).

Yep, thanks for the suggestion though. Just benched it, got 5131 on 3Dmark06. (with AMD X2 4600 @ 2.83ghz, 2GB DDR ram at 217mhz)
Here's a pic of my new card, see how long it is compared to my 7600GT?

I was just about to mention that you can set scaling options in your nvidia drivers, but n/m since you already got an ATI card \o/

I tried all the features on the nVdia control panel before giving up and buying this card. Can you take a screenshot of the scaling feature you mentioned? Just for future reference. Thanks.
