Default Major League Baseball targets slingbox users for "placeshifting"

Why do these money grubbing tool sheds needs to mess with people?? How are they losing a single cent of revenue by someone using a Slingbox to watch the same thing they would watch at home?

A slingbox can only transmit to ONE user.... that is it. Not to mention that the stream is encrypted, and you cannot even record the damn thing! How is this a BAD thing for baseball??? I just do not get it.

Your are still receiving the signal at your home, so you are not violating any regional broadcasting standards. Man, stuff like this makes me want to go punch people in the face!

What's a slingbox? images/smilies/smile.gif And why would one watch a game where men in funny hats hit a ball with a bat?

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I missed this somehow!

Slingbox is a device that allows you to stream a TV signal over the internet. I am in KOREa, but I am watching television from my house in Colorado. When you combine this device with a DVR it is a GREAT way to watch exactly what you want to when you want to.

From a nation who's 1994 Sportsperson of the Year was a table tennis player ;P

I don't see how this is a bad thing either. If I understand correctly, Sling doesn't allow for time-shifting only place-shifting. So a person on their cell phone or laptop in another location still has to watch all the advertising and other associated revenue earning items. So I'm struggling to understand how making the games more accessible to travelers is a bad thing images/smilies/blink.gif

All sports are horrible when it comes to this, but MLB seems to be the worst.

Even if you have the Extra Innings package to get EVERY game they still black out your game. If the game is on ESPN HD but not your local channel in HD, ESPN is blacked out.

Its a good thing baseball is my favorite sport, otherwise I would say to hell with it.
