My mistake, based on this google search it should be faster. 1.42GHz should be around 1.8-2.0GHz Centrino.

As for upgrading the Mac mini. Well you can swap out the RAM (DDR PC2700) and HDD (2.5 Notebook HDD) with those w/ higher capacity w/o voiding warranty as long as you dont break anything. You can find the video on how to crack open the case here

In theory you could upgrade your Mac. There are companies that sell processor & motherboard upgrades. You can use PC parts like HDDs, optical drives, memory, WiFi cards (check if it uses certain chipset which I can't remember) & video cards (gotta flash it first).

IIRC Macs can easily emulate PCs because it uses a RISC-based processor (PowerPC) while those chips w/ the x86 architecture uses CISC-based processors. Emulating OS X on a P4-3.0GHz was reported to have yielded 4fps.

A few years back there was a rumor circulating that Apple was maintaining a x86 version of OS X that ran on Intel & AMD beige boxes for internal use only. I'm guessing they're doing this just in case they have to ditch the PowerPC platform.

I don't ind Macs, they're useful as professional tools and we use them quite extensively for video editing and audio manipulation at uni. But I'm a gamer at home and wouldn't want a mini-mac for that reason.

Not true. I have yet to receive spam from them or anyone else for that matter. If you want more info on the company that runs these sites, check them out - http://www.gratisnetwork.com/Default.html

Well, I am always extremely sceptical of these offers. Nothing is ever free. No matter how you look at it, somehow $500 (the cost of a Mini Mac) is being created and circulated between the various companies involved.
