Default MPEG2 Editing

I recently have gained access to a number of mpeg2 files that need to have commercials removed. Anyone have any suggestions for programs that will let me remove the sections of video I don't want (preferrably for free or low cost (so Adobe Premiere is out))? I have the ability already to turn them in to xvid and/or DVD with Nero 6.6 and other tools I have already gotten from here. I have tried tmpgenc which I have had problems keeping the audio in sync with TMPGenc.

The simplest and best quality result is to not re-encode to another format (if you don't mind the larger size that MPEG2 files have) and to use a cutting / joining tool.

Here are a few:

I haven't used any of them, but Mpeg2Schnitt sounds the most familiar to me.

yeah, hard drive space is of no concern (I have a 750GB raid, just dying to get some usage). I will definitely look in to those tools after I get out of class today. Thanks.

TMPGEnc is also great, they have some new apps too. I dont recall if VirtualDub has MPEG2 tools. Also check out doom9.org, great people.

Is there some trick to TMPGEnc that keeps the audio in sync? EVERY time I have tried to use it to cut commercials from videos, I have had problems with the audio not being synced correctly.
