2. "Obtain" a copy of Vista and do a complete reinstall (your Vista disc is probably damaged or scratched)

My local computer store assembles it for free, so I would assume that somebody out there would do it for a small fee. Install a Vista/XP dualboot. I've done so, and it seems to work fine.
