| Most new phones are tri-band and should work across the world. The big problem is that bare phones without buying a year-long service subscribtion would be pretty damn expensive (at least that's how it works over here, the providers actually pay the phone for you if you sign up for usually a year). A decent mid-high range phone would easily cost 6-700 USD while a presubscribed phone could cost down to 15 cents (1 NOK). In addition to that, you lose a lot of support options. So, I'd probably stick to what you can get locally unless you really want a phone that sticks out. Some brands like Nokia seem to have a pretty high rate of poorly built phones that need servicing or warranty replacing (a couple of years back, something like 40% of new nokias were returned cause of poor build quality.. maybe something to consider )I'm not a big fan of flip phones (or nokias for that matter) myself, seems like way too much work and way too many mechanical parts that WILL fail Currently using an Ericsson T630 (a bit boring, too common cause of said deals), but I really like the way Ericssons, Siemens and Panasonics look over the Nokias and Motorolas. The menu system/UI on the Ericsson can be a PITA some times though... like I have to confirm like 4 times to send an SMS ![]() | |

| It's usually 1 year here, but you can probably get high end phones even cheaper with 2 years. If you wait a couple of months after a new model is released, you can have pretty much any phone for roughly 100-200 USD though. Since you can just fork up $180 (estimate) to end the subscription (and open any locks if there were any) you can get some high end phones a bit cheaper than usual without any bindings. Some of the providers lock the phones to their service for the bound period, but for a little extra you can get rid of that lock. | |
