Default Need some help video editing

just wondering if anybody knows how to download a video from youtube, google video etc so i can work clips in for a little project im doing

i currently am working with the rather modest windows movie maker, but im pretty happy with it, my only question that comes to mind is if anybody knows a way to mute the sound of a clip at say 28 out of 32 seconds, that could help me with transitions, right now all the transitions are kinda abrupt, and i dont want to look like a wanker and just use fade in/out over and over again, only where it fits

anyways thanks!

Hi. i'm quite into video editing, so maybe i can help. to get videos from Google you need to download them in PSP/iPod form, that's the only actual video. the other is just a shortcut for the player. you can't actually download vids from youtube, but if you really want them you could use Fraps screen recorder. anyway, clips in mm. i suggest you go into timeline mode and split the clips at the point you want to mute, then just mute that bit. it's the only way. pinnacle studio 10 makes it easier IMO

You can download videos from google video, youtube etc. Get a VideoDownloader extension to firefox from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/. I don't know what video formats Movie Maker supports, but videos from youtube are in .flv format (flash video). I personally use a lot Premiere editing program and it can handle flv with no problem.

And the only way to do this mute easily is like matt2000 said. You could also use keyframes to fade only the sound, but I don't know if MovieMaker supports them...

Here's an easier way:
http://vixy.net/flv_converter
You just plug in the youtube page address that the video is on, and you select the format.

1. Go to http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
2. Enter the Youtube URL
3. Download the resultant file and save as <filename>.flv
4. Download and install VLC player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Nice. I already have VLC (and now use it as my default video player), but didn't know about this feature. Thanks bro images/smilies/wink.gif
