New LCD Monitor but no video

I have just got a new Advent 19" widescreen LCD monitor. It works great apart from videos don't play in certain things. For example if I try to play a video in WMP the sound works but I just get a blank screen. The graphics card is a ATI Mobility 200M.
Websites such as Youtube work fine on the videos.

download vlc player, and use that. If that doesn't work then theres something seriously wrong.

I presume your using a laptop ? (Mobility Card)

You need to go into your display settings, Advanced, ATi displays and make sure your monitor is the only one selected.

I had a similar problem a while ago using my TV as a screen for watching 24, video would show on the TV but only an empty box with sound on the monitor.

Thanks that worked great images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
Unfortunately I now have a new problem. There seems to be no way I can select the monitors native resolution of 1440x900. The option is not in the Windows options and not in the ATI control panel. The card can support up to 2048x1536 so that is not the problem. The monitor came with no drivers and I have updated the ATI drivers. Any suggestions?

Video playback is done via hardware acceleration which means that it'll only render on one monitor at a time. When I use my dad's PC to watch videos on the TV, I have to set the TV as the primary monitor. images/smilies/wink.gif

And the closest 16:9 is 1440x810 (1440x900 is not 16:9 nor 4:3). Choose an actual 16:9 resolution is my suggestion. images/smilies/smile.gif

The actual aspect ratio is 16:10 not 16:9 but the only widescreen resolution I am getting the option of is 1280*800 which is also 16:10 but for some reason does not show properly.

i think Nvidia lets you add in custom profiles, maybe yours has that option somewhere. the res you can pick from is only what windows thinks will work with the monitor AND video card, not just one of the 2, so without drivers lots of LCDs work but get stuck on some stupid arroy of aspect ratios.

Not all drivers support all resolutions. I have the same problem at work, where we have a very 1337 Dell 40" HD LCD TV in my office for the display of people's presence (so we @servicedesk can easily see who's there and who isn't) but the PC on it doesn't support PAL widescreen shit (on HD resos the presence is virtually unreadable from the other side of the office)
