Default Opening only one part of a multi-part/split RAR archive?

Is there any software that will extract only part of an file archived in a multipart/split RAR archive? Ex.: say, an archive has ten parts but I only want to open the second (or the first, or the eighth, or whatever); is there any archiver that will do this? Most tend to moan that the archive isn't complete (7-zip, Winrar, etc).

Er, you can't. It's one big RAR that has been split up into multiple pieces. The file in the RAR is split among those files and so it needs to open them all to get the whole file and check it's hashsum.

Now on the other hand, what about if you had 100 same size files in a 10-part RAR. Could you have just one part, open it, and get like 8-10 files out of it? I'm not sure.

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

I am pretty sure that is not possible because it spread the info out through several files. You could end up with just a fragment of what you are actually looking for.

^ Yes, that's the idea, of course. I know that I can't get the whole file out of only one segment. I only want a fragment.

Short answer: no. However, I think there is a way, but I'm not sure what that is, sorry.

^ Doesn't matter what's in it. Although, yeah, if it's video or audio or some other sort of file that is streamed into memory, that's the idea.
