Dark_Templer_102: Do not attempt to flash your 9800 Pro to an XT! Your card must have the R360 core, and your's does not, according to what you posted earlier.

As for overclocking, I would follow what Chaos said. If you want to be able to do a larger amount of overlocking, then your going to need a better cooler. Stock 9800 Pro cards tend to run a bit hot already without overlocking, so keep that in mind images/smilies/wink.gif

Templer and I have been discussing some of his options over AIM. He wil have to overclock his processor to get some more points, but its kind of complicated to ovrclock Prescotts.

Give it more megahurtsz on the +12v line. That will help cool it to a subzero mortalkombat character.

Yes, overclocking the CPU is good, but overclocking (or better yet, upgrading) the Video Card often seems to make more of a difference, for games anyway. My brother had a 1 Ghz duron and a 9800 pro, then he upgraded to a 3200+ (32bit) and really didn't see a whole lot of a performance increase. Then he put an nVidia 6800 in there and saw a dramatic increase in 3Dmarks.

Yes of course a new video card will be much better then a new proc for games.

If your brother got the video card before the 3200+ setup, I don't think he would have gotten the increase he expected. You brother's processor would become a bottleneck and his video card would not be used to its full potential.

I had that problem when I had a 650MHz Athlon and I got a Geforce Ti4200 and I got little boost over my old card. Only when I upgraded to my AMD XP 1500+ did I get the increase I expect.

As for Templer goes, he would be best off getting a new video card, becuase his processor is fairly decent and fast enough.

First of all, you have an intel. You won't likely be outrunning anything amd with a similar video card for games (intels < amd in game performance).

That said, for more performance, use the radeon omega drivers which let you overclock your video card. But don't oc too much, otherwise more heat and stress for your card = shorter life, even failure if you push too hard.

Overclocking processor can be done through bios. Just make sure your pci and agp bus speeds are locked, and you should be able to get more mhz by cranking the fsb a bit higher. But not too much higher, otherwise you need to fiddle with core voltage and other stuff, and the same problems with oc'ing video cards too much applies.
